The Simon Miller-trained Angelic Miss (NZ) (Savabeel) landed her first black-type success when closing well to win the Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) at Ascot in Perth on Saturday.

The five-year-old mare by Savabeel relished the hot tempo, sitting worse than midfield under jockey Chris Parnham before pouncing late as the leaders compounded to win by just over a length.

The victory was a satisfying one for Miller, who had sent out the runner-up in three stakes races earlier on the card but always maintained Angelic Miss was the best of his runners.

“I am just proud of my stable. We have been nudged out of photos all day, but if you throw enough darts you will hit,” Miller quipped.

Winning rider Chris Parnham celebrated a treble on the day, all at Listed level, and has now ridden the mare to all five of her career wins from 13 starts.

“It was a really hot tempo and I was quite happy,” Parnham said.

“If anything, I probably wanted to be a length closer. She just takes a long time to really hit top-speed but she powered over the top of them late.”

Perth’s fillies and mares will continue hostilities in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) on December 4 at Ascot and Parnham believes Angelic Miss will be suited by the step-up in distance.

“You would think she would be hard to beat. With good tempo she always finishes off strong and she will run out the 1400m no problem I’d say,” Parnham said.

Bred by Windsor Park Stud, Angelic Miss is out of the stakes-placed Guillotine mare Angelica Hall, who is in turn out of the multiple stakes winner Greta Hall.
