Big fields are the order of the afternoon at Doomben on Wednesday, and HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the eight-race metropolitan meeting. The track is rated a Soft 6, the rail is out 8m for the entirety of the course, and the first race is set to jump at 1:18pm AEST.

Doomben Best Bet – Go Wandji

We could look like right mugs if this promising four-year-old opens at the the same price as he started ($1.16) last time around, but this is a tougher race. The talented Go Wandji has won five of his seven starts and is now looking for a third-straight victory having won convincingly at Doomben and Eagle Farm at his last two in Benchmark 70 and Class 3 company respectively. The son of Wandjina now steps up to Class 4 grade and comes back to the 1350m trip at Doomben, where he was a 4.5-length winner two starts back, albeit with only 54.5kg on his back. He carries 58kg on Wednesday, but he has drawn very well in gate three under Larry Cassidy once again, which should see him get the job done again. Astro Boy Toy, Spokesman and Hot Spring Gold add a lot more depth to this race than last time, so we should get closer to $1.70 than $1.20.

Best BetRace 2 – Go Wandji (#2) $1.55 with Sportsbet

Next Best Bet at Doomben – Data Patch

John Moore and Ryan Maloney combine in the opener with Data Patch, who is in the search for his maiden win at start four. The big grey son of Exceed And Excel has placed in all three of his starts to date, including a second last time out at the Gold Coast on November 13 when beaten over 1400m. Data Patch has drawn very kindly in gate three for Maloney, which could allow the hoop to take closer order over the 1350m journey in a race where horses probably won’t want to get too far back. This three-year-old has plenty of ability and isn’t far away from putting it all together now, so he should be right in this race third-up.

Next BestRace 1 – Data Patch (#7) $4.40 with Sportsbet

Doomben Value Bet – Rations

We made Rations our top value pick when she returned first-up at Ipswich on November 10 and she was not beaten far when third. The Barry Baldwin-trained four-year-old finished second to Incentivise back in April in the race where that horse began a nine-race win streak, so that form simply has to be respected, especially at the mile. The daughter of Outreach has won once over this distance and finished second on another occasion when runner-up to the 2021 Caulfield Cup winner. Rations has had two starts at Doomben; she placed second in Maiden grade back in March, before finishing down the track in Listed company in April behind Easifar and Tycoon Evie. If she gets luck in running from barrier one under Mark Du Plessis, we are confident she will win this.

Best ValueRace 3 – Rations (#6) $4.50 with Sportsbet
