HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst has picked out his best bets and quaddie numbers for Friday’s twilight meeting at Canterbury Park. The track is rated a Heavy 8, the rail is out 6m for the entire course, and the first of eight races is set to jump at 6pm AEDT.

Canterbury Best Bet – Cross Talk

In the second leg of the quaddie, Gai Waterhouse, Adrian Bott and Tim Clark combine with the unbeaten Cross Talk. The four-year-old son of Keano won his maiden at Pukekura by four lengths back in May, before coming to Australia and winning by five lengths at Hawkesbury on November 4. Both of those victories came on Heavy tracks, so he should relish the conditions on Friday night if they stay as they are. Canterbury is known for producing an on-pace bias, so this gelding’s racing pattern should be suited here. Drawn out in barrier eight, Clark will take the four-year-old forward and find the front, which will make him very hard to catch. He will be fitter second-up too.

Best BetRace 6 – Cross Talk (#5) $3 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Canterbury – Jump The Broom

Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes will saddle up unbeaten galloper Jump The Broom in the last race of the night, and she looks very hard to beat. The four-year-old mare won well at Geelong back in June on a Soft 5, before leading most of the way first-up at Moonee Valley on a Soft 7 last time out to win by 3.5 lengths over 1200m. The daughter of Sebring has won both of her races over this distance, while the wet track is going to suit. Tommy Berry will do the riding from barrier five, which will see Jump The Broom go forward and be hard to run down. If she finds the front easily enough, we are confident she won’t be caught.

Next BestRace 8 – Jump The Broom (#3) $3.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value at Canterbury – Liberty Sun

Gregory McFarlane and Brock Ryan combine in the penultimate race with six-year-old Liberty Sun. The son of Statue Of Liberty has won five of his 21 starts, while three of them have come over this distance (1250m). The gelding is one win from one start on Heavy going, while he has also only missed the places at Canterbury once in six starts. Ryan will claim 2kg, so Liberty Sun will only carry 57.5kg from barrier 10, which should see him cross over to the front and look to dictate terms, especially given that some of the other speed in the race is drawn wide as well. He stays in Benchmark 78 company and drops 1kg from a Saturday metropolitan race at Rosehill where he ran fifth to On The Lead. This is easier.

Best ValueRace 7 – Liberty Sun (#2) $12 with Sportsbet
