The Simon Miller-trained Angelic Miss (NZ) (Savabeel) made it back-to-back stakes victories when dashing home to win the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) at Ascot in Perth.

The five-year-old daughter of Savabeel was the third stakes winner on the day for Miller, who had earlier sent out Liwa (Mulaazem) to win the Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (1400m) and Valour Road (Frost Giant) to win the Gr.3 A.J. Scahill Stakes (1400m).

From a wide draw Angelic Miss got back in the field and despite the moderate tempo was able to blend into the race at the right time under jockey Chris Parnham and got the head down at the right time to win by a nose from Bright Diamond (I Am Invincible).

Miller was delighted to get the result with the mare, who was a last-start winner of the Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) and had never previously won beyond 1200m.

“At the top of the straight I was thinking win, lose or draw – gee he has ridden it good. He just gave her every opportunity to get 1400m and when you’re on a bit of a run, momentum goes your way and you get those photos,” he said.

Miller was keen to digest jockey Chris Parnham’s thoughts as to whether to push on to the Listed Starstruck Classic (1600m) in two weeks’ time.

Parnham has a good affinity with the mare and has now ridden her to all six of career wins from 14 starts.

“The race was run pretty slowly and was always going to set up for something that was out wide on the track,” Parnham said.

“It probably helped her get the 1400m and if she had drawn well and ended up three back on the fence, she wouldn’t have had any chance at all because of the tempo.

“She built momentum from the 1400m and she is a good mare, she got over the top of them.”

Bred by Windsor Park Stud, Angelic Miss is out of the stakes-placed Guillotine mare Angelica Hall (NZ), who is in turn out of the multiple stakes winner Greta Hall (NZ) (Kaapstad).

Angelic Miss is raced by long-time Miller stable clients Ray Meadowcroft, Chris Chalwell and Peter Jones.
