Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 4, 2021 Journalists Posted December 4, 2021 MO DONEGAL (c, 2, Uncle Mo–Callingmissbrown, by Pulpit) rallied and out-gamed slightly more fancied Zandon (Upstart) to notch a narrow decision in Aqueduct's GII Remsen S. Saturday after his connections sweated out a stewards' inquiry. Third in his sprint debut at Belmont Sept. 30, the $250,000 KEESEP yearling relished the stretch out to 1 1/16 miles Oct. 21, earning a field's-best 82 Beyer Speed Figure. Saving ground in midpack as they crawled up front, the bay circled up out wide heading for home but had some work to do as Chad Brown trainee Zandon struck the front. Mo Donegal looked en route to a convincing score, but Zandon fought back inside. Mo Donegal got the bob, and while it appeared on the head-on like the pair made contact before the line, possibly as a result of Irad Ortiz, Jr. angling in on Mo Donegal, the result was allowed to stand. The winner stopped the clock in 1:53.61. This was the third Remsen win for trainer Todd Pletcher and second for Jerry Crawford's Donegal Racing, which annexed the early Triple Crown trail event in 2011 with Dale Romans-trained O'Prado Again.
