Susan Moulton’s Manny Wah (c, 2, Will Take Charge-Battlefield Angel, by Proud Citizen) became his freshman sire’s third winner with a determined victory at Arlington Park Saturday. The 7-5 favorite broke alertly and went right to the early lead with second choice Bizzee Channel (English Channel) pressing him through fractions of :23.41 and :46.49. The two colts went eyeball to eyeball down the stretch, with Manny Way grimly outbattling that rival, completing the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:04.40. Manny Wah, a $175,000 Fasig-Tipton July yearling, was runner-up on debut going five furlongs at Churchill Downs June 30. He is the first foal out of Grade I placed Battlefield Angel, who produced a colt by Uncle Mo in 2017 and a filly by Pioneerof the Nile this year before being bred back to Arrogate. Third in the 2013 GI Darley Alcibiades, Battlefield Angel is a half-sister to GI Kentucky Derby runner-up Lookin at Lee (Lookin at Lucky) and a full to this year’s GIII Peter Pan S. winner Blended Citizen. She RNA’d with Manny Wah in utero for $190,000 at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton November sale. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $29,400. O-Susan Moulton. B-Martha Jane Mulholland & Modo Tesio Equine LLC (Ky).
