Having hosted an eight-race card on Monday, the Hillside track at Sandown is scheduled to hold another eight-part meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Horsebetting’s Victorian tipping expert presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie picks for Victoria’s metropolitan meeting. The track has come up a Good 4, with the rail out 12m the entire circuit, for the meeting commencing at 3:40pm AEDT.

Sandown Best Bet – The Economist

Barry Fox sends his three-year-old Danerich gelding The Economist back to the Sandown 1400m following a narrow second-place finish at the track and distance on December 15. He was beaten a half-length on that day where he simply was unable to run down a leader who seemingly had every favour in the running. He was able to run past Port Louis who ties in strong Group 1 form and if The Economist brings a similar effort to Sandown on Wednesday, he should be too good for this lot. From barrier 1, Jye McNeil will have him settled closer to the rear of the field, but if the big grey can show a similar turn of foot as he did last time out, he is a clear best bet on the card.

Best BetRace 2 – The Economist (#8) $2.90 with Bet365

Next Best Bet at Sandown – Duchy Of Savoy

One of our better bets of the afternoon comes up in the opener when Team Hawkes send Duchy of Savoy to the Sandown 1000m. With a three-length defeat to Gimmie Par in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes in her last start back in August, she looks to have the touch of ability required to take out a maiden like this. Despite the defeat, she managed to finish on the heels of Scorched Earth and Najmaty who also have Stakes form around them and if Duchy Of Savoy is anywhere near that form she will take some beating. Look for the in-form Jye McNeil to be positive from barrier eight and have the three-year-old Snitzel filly settled outside the leader. With a win at the trials under her belt, Duchy Of Savoy looks to be a clear and obvious bet on Wednesday.

Next BestRace 1 – Duchy Of Savoy (#8) $2.00 with Ladbrokes

Best Value Bet at Sandown – Rathlin

It was a tough watch for those on the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Rathlin at Moonee Valley on December 17 and we think he can bounce back with a win in the opening leg of the quaddie. The four-year-old son of Fastnet Rock was held up for a run the entire home straight last time out and with even luck at Sandown, we expect to see him fight out the finish. He has form behind the superstar that is I’m Thunderstruck last campaign and with two minor placings from three first up runs, he should be right to go here. From barrier three, look for Josh Richards to have him in a spot in the moving line and with a 2kg claim, Rathlin should be fighting out the finish at a nice price.

Best ValueRace 5 – Universal Lady (#1) $5.50 with Sportsbet
