Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted January 24, 2022 Journalists Share Posted January 24, 2022 What Australia Day Races Where Warwick Farm Racecourse – Governor Macquarie Dr, Warwick Farm NSW 2170 When Wednesday, January 26, 2022 First Race 1:40pm AEDT Feature Race R7: Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) Watch Live Streaming Live at Sportsbet HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the eight-race card at Warwick Farm on Australia Day, with odds from the nation’s top betting sites. The track is rated a Soft 7 with drying conditions forecast across Tuesday, while the rail is in the true position. The first race of the day will jump at 1:40pm AEDT, while the featured Australia Day Cup will run at 5:20pm. Listed Australia Day Cup – Navy Cross Whether or not the Magic Millions Subzero (2400m) is the right form or not, that’s the way we are looking for this race over the same trip. We often have some queries about backing horses who come out of restricted sales races, but Navy Cross didn’t really do anything wrong to warrant being sacked. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained son of I Am Invincible took off early at the Gold Coast on January 15 and proved too strong at the end of 2400m, kicking late to defeat Outlandos, Rebel Rama and the race favourite in this event, Parry Sound. While the gelding does meet Parry Sound 1.5kg worse at the weights, that runner will be spotting Navy Cross a fair start, which could once again prove to be the difference. We’re not overly confident, but Tim Clark can rate him right and give him every chance to repeat the dose. Australia Day CupRace 7 – Navy Cross (#6) $4.20 with Sportsbet Best Bet at Warwick Farm – Solvere We are confident we can get off to a good start in the opening race of the day when Anthony Cummings and Jason Collett combine with three-year-old gelding Solvere. The son of Rubick debuted as a $41 chance despite two good trials and gave a massive sight, running third behind Retrieval and Kipsbay at Canterbury. Solvere was heavily backed on January 7 at his second start, and while it looked good for his backers throughout the run, Sneaky Shark gathered him up in the straight to win by a length. The good news from the run is that, even with the solid tempo, he was able to stick on over the trip in what turned out to be the quickest of the four 1100m races that night at Canterbury. Solvere has drawn barrier 10, which is only one from the outside, but with Amathuba drawn outside him, he could get the perfect cart across to settle outside the leader or land one out, one back, which would be ideal in this 3YO Maiden Plate. The $4 at Sportsbet is well worth a pop. Best BetRace 1 – Solvere (#3) $4 with Sportsbet Next Best at Warwick Farm – Fire One horse we have a bit of time for at this sort of level is the Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Fire. The son of Fastnet Rock didn’t fire a shot on debut at this track as a two-year-old, but after being gelded he’s come out as a totally different horse. In his first run as a gelding on August 18, jockey Tommy Berry slightly overdid it when looking for the front and he just knocked up late to run third, before going to Bendigo a fortnight later and leading all of the way to record a dominant 2.75-length victory. In the gelding’s most recent start, he only beat one runner home at Moonee Valley when seventh behind Minsk Moment and Port Louis, although that was a much stronger field than what he faces here. Fire trialled very well at Rosehill on January 17 over 902m under Berry, which should set him up perfectly for this 1000m Benchmark 72. From gate three, he can find the front easily and prove too slick around Warwick Farm. Next BestRace 4 – Fire (#7) $2.60 with Sportsbet Next Best Again at Warwick Farm – Dajraan These international runners always interest us first-up in Australia, especially when they’re in the hands of a stable like Waterhouse & Bott. Dajraan, a four-year-old by Frankel, has won two of his eight career starts and now looks to make it three from nine in what will be his Australian debut. The entire won his first trial on December 21 at Canterbury, defeating Duchess and Jamaea by 1.6 lengths, before running second at Rosehill in a 1030m trial on January 4 behind his stablemate and recent Saturday winner Silent Impact. Although both of his wins have been over 1400m, the son of Frankel has shown toe in his two trials, which suggests he can be competitive over 1200m first-up. James McDonald rode him in each of his trials, so him retaining the ride on race day is a big push, while barrier one will give him plenty of options out of the gate. While he will have to carry a big weight of 61kg and will race with synthetic hoof filler for the first time, he looks to have a bit of class which will take him a long way.
