Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 4, 2022 Journalists Posted February 4, 2022 Bo Hirsch homebred Ce Ce (Elusive Quality) closed 2021 with a career high in the Breeder' Cup and looks to pick up where she left off in her 2022 debut in the GII Santa Monica S. at Santa Anita Saturday. A dual Grade I winner in 2020, she captured the GII Princess Rooney S. at Gulfstream in July of last year and was third next out in Saratoga's GI Ballerina H. in August. Romping by five lengths next out in this venue's GIII Chillingsworth S. Oct. 3, the chestnut rallied to a 2 1/2-length score in the GI Breeders' Cup F/M Sprint S. at Del Mar Nov. 6. Kalypso (Brody's Cause) also enters this test off a career-high victory in Santa Anita's GI La Brea S. Dec. 26. Winner of the GII Santa Ynez S. last term, she was second in the GIII Las Virgenes S. and GIII Santa Ysabel S., part of the Arcadia Road to the GI Kentucky Oaks. Bob Baffert decided his charge was better suited to one-turn and sent her to the GIII Eight Belles S. on the same card, where she was eased and walked off after bleeding. Given some time to recover, the chestnut made her return in the La Brea, where she blasted home a 4 3/4-length winner. Kalypso is joined by stablemate Merneith (American Pharoah) in this event. A stakes winner and graded placed in 2020, the bay made just one start in 2021 and it was a winning one in this very event. Sent to the sidelines, she resurfaced in the Kalookian Queen S. at this oval Jan. 2, finishing second.
