Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 5, 2022 Journalists Posted February 5, 2022 EARLY VOTING (c, 3, Gun Runner–Amour d'Ete, by Tiznow) was hesitant to get in the gate for Saturday's GIII Withers S., but he broke out running and never looked back to dominate in just his second start while becoming the fifth graded stakes winner for last year's champion freshman sire. Having come through at odds-on to don cap and gown over a local mile Dec. 18, the dark bay was a surprisingly strong 6-5 favorite but it was soon apparent as to what all the fuss was about. Doling out opening splits of :23.57 and :48.04, Early Voting blew the race apart on the turn and had a five-plus length advantage on the competition as he entered the stretch. He kept finding from there, and was far in front of longshot Un Ojo (Laoban) and Gilded Age (Medaglia d'Oro) in second and third, respectively. The winner stopped the clock in 1:55.90.
