Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 16, 2022 Journalists Share Posted February 16, 2022 The 2022 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales are over, with sales in excess of $14m. They wrapped up this afternoon after the opening day at Karaka on Sunday and then three days in Christchurch – (trotters on Monday, with pacers Tuesday and Wednesday). Today was the second day of the Pacers sale and it wasn’t quite as action packed as yesterday when there was a top price of $260,000 and nearly $4m turned over, with an average price of $51,338. The top price today was the $200,000 shelled out by Cran and Chrissie Dalgety’s Kentuckiana Lodge for Lot 318, a Captaintreacherous – Imaginary Bet colt. “It had a few more zeroes than I would have liked,” Dalgety joked after the sale, “but sometimes you have to pay overs to get what you want.” Seven other yearlings went past $100,000, including two later in the day – Lot 405 (Bettor’s Delight – Solandra colt) for $150,000 and Lot 408 (Captain Treacherous – Spanish Armada colt) for $120,000. A total of 35 horses sold for at least $100,000 over the four days. In all the sale’s turnover was $14.5m, with an average of $50,292 and a clearance rate of 75 per cent.
