Warwick Farm trainer Bjorn Baker has continued his uncanny knack of winning the last race in Sydney when War Eternal (NZ) (Pierro) proved too strong when winning the XXXX Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Pierro three-year-old has now won two of his eight starts, with a further two placings and has netted A$218,350 in prizemoney to date.

Ridden by Jason Collett, War Eternal came off the back of favourite Dajraan and went straight past him to win by more than two lengths from Tamerlane, with Dajraan back in third.

“It is dead-set uncanny (winning the last race again). The last 18 months, I don’t know what it is or how it goes,” said Baker, who had earlier sent out Rule Of Law to win his fifth race in succession.

“A few of my greatest owners are in War Eternal, including Carl Holt in whose colours he races, Barry Rissetto, Keith Ferrel, Bill Kelly, just so many good people.

“He was bought by James Clarke at Karaka. He is doing a super job for me.

“It was a great ride by Jason and I am absolutely thrilled.”

Collett said War Eternal appreciated the give in the ground and is pretty casual despite being a colt.

“The barrier (2) was a huge help and I was able to land the back of  Dajraan, who looked the one to beat,” Collett said.

“He took a bit of winding up but once he got through that gap he was good late.”

Out of the Fastnet Rock mare Aleria, War Eternal was bred by Cambridge Stud principal’s Brendan and Jo Lindsay, with Clarke and Baker going to $160,000 to source the colt from the stud’s 2020 Karaka Book 1 draft.
