Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 28, 2018 Journalists Share Posted July 28, 2018 Raymond Mamone’s Imperial Hint (Imperialism–Royal Hint, by Lahint) came from off a blistering pace to record an embarrassingly easy victory in the GI Alfred G. Vanderbilt at Saratoga Saturday. Having developed into a veritable win machine the past two seasons, the 4-5 choice sat behind brisk opening fractions of :21.7 and :44.39 carved out by Switzerland (Speightstown), who was prompted by Mr. Crow (Tapizar). As Mr. Crow retreated turning for home, Imperial Hint closed like a freight train on the outside and within strides, was at Switzerland’s throatlatch, and drew clear late to win by a geared down four lengths. 6-1 chance Warrior’s Club (Warrior’s Reward) closed well to be second, while Sweetontheladies (Twirling Candy) was third. Final time for the six furlong event was 1:08.98. Winner of a pair of Grade III events last season, Imperial Hint capped off the season with a classy runner-up finish behind Roy H (More Than Ready) in the GI Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Del Mar. This term, the 5-year-old won two out of three prior starts, including the GII True North H. at Belmont June 8. Lifetime Record: 17-11-2-0; $1,227,655.
