Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 28, 2018 Journalists Share Posted July 28, 2018 Winchell Thoroughbred’s Tenfold (3, c, Curlin–Temptress, by Tapit) zig zagged his way to victory in Saratoga’s marquee race for 3-year-olds, the GII Jim Dandy S. Pressing 7-2 chance Flameway (Scat Daddy) through opening splits of :23.9 and :47.16, 8-5 second choice GI Preakness third Tenfold was four lengths clear of Reride (Candy ride {Arg}), who was himself well clear of Grade I winner Sporting Chance (Tiznow) and Vino Rosso (Curlin), who was about a dozen lengths back in last early. Continuing to slug it out to through the quarter pole, Tenfold and Flameaway swung into the turn in tandem as Reride attempted to narrow the gap on the leaders in vain. Meanwhile, Sporting Chance blew the turn once again, and was eased through the lane as GII Wood memorial winner Vino Rosso began to close but seemingly had too much to do. With seemingly the most momentum late,Tenfold looked a winner midstretch, but he veered abruptly to the outside, giving Flameaway a glimmer of hope along the inside. In the end, his deep stretch shenanigans didn’t matter, and once righted, Tenfold drove clear to a 1 1/2-length winner over Flameaway. Vino Rosso closed like a freight train late to round out the trifecta. Final time for the nine furlong race 1:50.49. Lifetime Record: 6-3-0-1, $709,200.
