Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 26, 2022 Journalists Share Posted February 26, 2022 A Blue Diamond battle for the ages took place at Caulfield on Saturday with Team Freedman prevailing in the $1.5 million 2YO feature for the second year in a row. A year removed from Artorius’ victory, it was stablemate Daumier in the winner’s stall post-race after edging out last fortnight’s Fillies Prelude winner Revolutionary Miss in a ding-dong battle right to the line. The son of Epaulette went around as a rough $20.00 chance in the field of 15 despite showing plenty of ability in two starts prior. The two-year-old won the Blue Diamond Preview on debut by half a length over Rampant Lion, and then went on to hold ground for third behind Lofty Strike in the Prelude a fortnight later. A simple decision to put the blinkers on for the first time proved the difference, while a beautiful ride from the in-form Mark Zahra did the rest. Zahra stayed patient in transit before pushing the button 400m out from home, fending off Revolutionary Miss bravely in the final stages. “To the horses credit he really knuckled down there late, Mark gave him a great ride,” Sam Freedman said. “This colt’s shown great ability from day one and it’s nice to see it come to fruition.” Revolutionary Miss let down beautifully to run second under Jamie Kah, while race-favourite Jacquinot overcame a wide run in transit to find the line for third.
