Secret Oath Stings Rivals in Honeybee

A gaudy winner in her most recent start in the Jan. 29 Martha Washington S. at Oaklawn, Secret Oath (3, f, Arrogate–Absinthe Minded, by Quiet American) came right back to add an equally impressive score in Saturday's GIII Honeybee S. at Oaklawn. Settled off the pace through a :23.15 quarter, the chestnut inched closer to the front along the inside through a :47.07 half. Armed with a ton of horse but momentarily boxed in turning for home, jockey Luis Contreras finally found a seam along the inside and the 1-5 chance rolled right on through, scoring by a geared down seven-length margin over Ice Orchid (Super Saver). Yuugiri (Shackleford) was third. Final time for the 8 1/2-furlong test for sophomore fillies was 1:44.74. The victory marked the record sixth Honeybee victory for Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas.
