The expensive Peter Moody-trained colt Millane has made a winning debut in The Australian Childhood Foundation Plate (1000m) at Listed level in the first race at Flemington on Saturday afternoon

Jockey Luke Nolen, who last teamed up with Peter Moody to win this race eleven years ago, took Millane to the inside rail where he enjoyed a nice run in-behind the leaders.

With 250m to run, Nolen steered his mount through a gap to take the lead and record a strong victory with race-favourite Wee Nessy finishing a length-and-a-quarter behind in second place.

The son of Zoustar was a $1.15 million purchase at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Rosemont Stud, who have had a good run with their two-year-old’s this season, are part of the ownership group of the promising galloper.

Managing Director of Rosmont Stud, Anthony Mithen, indicated that they may have a lofty target in mind for the expensive colt.

“I think it’s two weeks to the Golden Slipper, is it?” Mithen quipped when interviewed by Racing.com after the event.

“You’ve got to live the dream.”

Nolen, who bounced back after being involved with a nasty incident at Sandown during the week involving another Moody galloper, was impressed with Millane.

“He’s made good progression,” Nolen stated.

“He showed real quality then. He’s a nice horse, an exciting colt.

“Hopefully he goes on to enhance that value.”

Nolen agreed that stepping up over the 1200m would be ideal for the galloper’s next start.

Millane is rated a $26 chance with Sportsbet to win the Group 1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens on March 19.
