G1 Melbourne Cup champion Koblenz – racing for the first time since December 27 – faces Listed Australian Sprint winner Nikoli Bale and Horsham 485m track record holder Soda Titan in a Mixed 3/4 450m race at Shepparton tonight.

G3 runner-up Aston Merit and the promising Mr. Audacious headline a Grade 5 450m race, while G1 finalists Fernando’s Quest and Xavien Bale are also in action.

The Watchdog says : Group 1 Melbourne Cup champion KOBLENZ (5) should be primed for this assignment, and he is expected to lead throughout. NIKOLI BALE (1) and SODA TITAN (8) are the obvious two to fill the minor money.

‘Must Watch Race’ Preview :

KOBLENZ (5) makes his much-anticipated return to the track, and it won’t be a walk in the park. He hasn’t raced since late December; however, he should be primed for this event and if at peak fitness, a sub 24.90sec run could be on the cards. Horsham 485m track record holder SODA TITAN (8) looks suitably drawn out wide and he has broken the magical 25-second barrier here previously, so if the favourite happens to make a mistake at box rise, he should be there to capitalise. Explosive speedster NIKOLI BALE (1) is capable of causing an upset if he can begin well from the red draw.
