Racing heads to Ballarat Turf Club on Tuesday afternoon for an intriguing eight-race card where there looks to be plenty of value on offer. The track is a Soft 5 at the time of writing, whilst the rail comes out to the 8m mark – an extra 2m from where we were a week ago. The rail was last out 8m on November 1 and no obvious bias was there throughout the day, with winners coming on and off the speed. Racing commences at 1:30pm AEDT.

Best Best at Ballarat – Draft Day

The Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Draft Day is set to resume off a six-month spell having won impressively at Sandown on September 1. The three-year-old Tivaci gelding settled three wide up on speed and managed to stick on strongly to claim an impressive victory, albeit by the barest of margins. From barrier 10, he maps to settle outside the leader, and if Damien Oliver – who heads to Ballarat for just two rides – can avoid him getting trapped wide, the $2.30 on offer from Neds looks to be a steal.

Best BetRace 7 – Draft Day (#7) $2.30 with Neds

Next Best at Ballarat – Gunna Gunna

We were with the Chris Calthorpe-trained Gunna Gunna when she was narrowly at Terang on February 21. The four-year-old mare stuck on bravely when being headed early in the home straight, and to go down by just 0.2 lengths showed she has more than average talent. With apprentice Hannah Edgley hopping on board and claiming 2kg, this daughter of Toronado should roll forward and look to use the weight relief to her advantage. There looks to be speed drawn either side of her, so we expect to see Edgley have her in the one-one throughout, and if that’s the case, Gunna Gunna is going to take a power of holding out.

Next BestRace 6 – Gunna Gunna (#10) $7 with Ladbrokes

Best Value at Ballarat – Armansky

The Matt Cumani-trained Armansky was involved in a nasty fall at Kilmore on February 10 when sent around as a $3 chance to break his maiden. We get nearly triple the price we got at Kilmore, and the long straight Ballarat will give him a chance to build through his gears nicely. The four-year-old Mongolian Khan gelding will need a bit of luck from barrier 15 to not get trapped wide, but if he is able to get into the moving line, he looks a great bet in his second run at the Ballarat 2000m, where he was an impressive runner-up in April 2021.

Best ValueRace 3 – Armansky (#1) $8 with Sportsbet
