Midweek metropolitan racing in New South Wales has been transferred from Randwick-Kensington to Canterbury Park on Wednesday due to heavy rainfall. The track at Canterbury isn’t much better, however, as it is rated a Heavy 10 at the time of writing. Our NSW racing analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the eight-race program, which is set to jump at 1:45pm AEDT. The rail is out 4m for the entire course.

Best Bet at Canterbury – Asteria

Mark Newnham and Rachel King combine in the opener with two-year-old filly Asteria. The filly is a full sister to Profiteer, and in her lone trial, she showed similar speed which will see her hard to beat on debut. That trial was on December 7 at Randwick over 740m, where she ran the fastest time of the morning, winning by three and a half lengths under King. Having drawn barrier two, King will take this filly straight to the front, where she will give the others a tough task to run her down. She can make a winning debut.

Next Best at Canterbury – Ringarosa

Three-year-old filly Ringarosa lines up in her sixth career start on Wednesday in what looks a very winnable race. The Gary Portelli-trained daughter of Sebring won her maiden on a Heavy 8 three starts back, before being completely luckless at this track behind Mayrose – a subsequent Saturday metropolitan winner – on a Soft 5 deck. At her most recent start, Ringarosa ran fourth behind the unbeaten Shades Of Rose. Apprentice hoop Ellen Hennessy goes on board, and although she is a downgrade from James McDonald, her 3kg claim which sees the filly in with just 52kg is a massive advantage. She should get a good run from barrier four and be very hard to beat.

Next BestRace 5 – Ringarosa (#7) $4.80 with Sportsbet

Best Value at Canterbury – Vreneli

Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott saddle up Vreneli in the penultimate race of the day in a Benchmark 72 over 1250m. The four-year-old son of Wandjina has won at Canterbury in the past, while he is also unbeaten on soft tracks and is a winner on heavy tracks, so the testing conditions should not be an issue. He will have to lug 61kg on Wednesday, but with Tim Clark on his back from barrier five, he should be able to find the front, roll along on the speed and prove hard to catch around a track like this. He was plain first-up at this track and distance, but he drops half a kilo, he gets onto a preferred heavy track and he has drawn much kinder. He can bounce back in this.

Best ValueRace 7 – Vreneli (#1) $8 with Sportsbet
