Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted March 8, 2022 Journalists Share Posted March 8, 2022 What Sandown Hillside Races Where Sandown Racecourse – 591-659 Princes Hwy, Springvale VIC 3171 When Wednesday, March 9, 2022 First Race 2:30pm AEDT Watch Live Streaming Live at Sportsbet HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst brings you his top tips and quaddie numbers for yet another Wednesday afternoon meeting on the Hillside track at Sandown. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out some 13m for the entire circuit, which is almost certain to favour on-speed runners. The first of nine races is set to get underway at 2:30pm AEDT. Sandown Best Bet – Sparring The Ron Stubbs-trained Sparring lived up to his pre-debut hype when absolutely thrashing his rivals over the Albury 900m on February 3. He comes to the Sandown 1000m in what looks to be quite an open affair, but it is simply too hard to ignore what he did on debut. Having won by 6.5 lengths in a slowly run race, he sprinted nicely and had plenty left in reserve with an already impressive gap. From barrier 11, Brett Prebble will need plenty of luck in rolling forward and looking to have the three-year-old Fighting Sun gelding in the leading pair throughout. This is obviously harder than his debut win, but on raw talent alone Sparring looks to be the clear best bet of the day. Best BetRace 6 – Sparring (#10) $2.80 with Neds Next Best at Sandown – The Garden The Symon Wilde-trained The Garden steps back from a third-place finish at the Flemington 1200m where he chased home the smart Rose Quartz. That horse came out and ran second last Saturday at Flemington, so we expect a forward showing from The Garden on Wednesday. The four-year-old Shooting To Win gelding is a natural front-runner, which is sure to be an advantage throughout the day. Joe Bowditch sticks on board, which is a massive bonus, and will look to dictate terms from barrier nine. This is by no means easier than the races The Garden has been competing in this campaign, but his class should shine through in the final race of the day. Next BestRace 9 – The Garden (#10) $2.35 with Sportsbet Next Best at Sandown – Pal D’oro We were with the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Pal D’oro when he was pipped on the winning post by Logan Street Lion last time, and he looks poised to go one better on Wednesday. From barrier five and with apprentice Josh Richards on board claiming 2kg, we expect the plan will be to roll forward, dictate terms throughout, offer a kick and simply prove too hard to run down. The query is whether he will be able to see out the mile at this stage of his career, considering he has not been able to run a drum in two starts at the 1600m. However, with the track bias most likely to be on his side, Richards should rate him a treat and have Pal D’oro proving too good for his rivals. Most online bookmakers have him around $5, and that looks overs.
