Eagle Farm will host its third meeting since March 12 this Wednesday with seven metropolitan races to be run and won. Since the track’s return, it has played pretty well with the rail in the +7m and +10m positions; it now gets moved out to 12m, which is likely to favour horses up on the speed, although the long straight will give most horses a chance to win. HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the meeting, which is set to be run on a Good 4 surface from 1:38pm AEST.

Eagle Farm Best Bet – Hang Five

In the opening race, in-form stable Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted saddle up two-year-old colt Hang Five in a 2YO Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate over 1200m. The son of Astern has had one career start when finishing second to Prince Shalaa at Doomben on February 16 over 1110m, going down by two tenths of a length. Since that start, Hang Five has been back to the trials where he was far too good for his rivals, winning the 840m heat by 1.5 lengths on March 15. Billy Egan has relocated to Queensland and this is his only ride for the day, so we are confident that he can get off to a flying start. Hang Five will be handy from barrier six and he should be able to prove too good for his rivals.

Next Best Bet at Eagle Farm – Teranga

When a stable is going as well as the O’Dea-Hoysted yard, it is hard to against their horses. In the final race of the afternoon, Boris Thornton hops aboard the unbeaten Teranga, who won her only start at the Gold Coast thanks to a successful challenge in the Stewards’ Room, with the upheld protest promoting her from second to first. She was a deadset certainty beaten on that occasion, so it was a deserving protest win. The three-year-old filly by Sebring was heavily backed on that occasion, so some market support will only boost our confidence on Wednesday. Drawn the outside alley, Thornton is likely to dig her out of the gates and look for the front, which will eliminate bad luck from the equation. The rise to 1400m looks to suit this filly, so we are very keen on her chances.

Best Value Bet at Eagle Farm – Overseas

Overseas is lining up in his fourth start for Billy Healy in South-East Queensland after departing the Trinity Bannon yard in North Queensland. When he raced in the north of the state, he had bundles of ability, winning seven of his 13 starts in the region and running second on five other occasions. Since joining the Healy stable, the four-year-old son of Ocean Park has improved with each run, coming third at Ipswich in a Benchmark 70 on March 9 over 1500m. Now stepping out to 1800m for the first time in his career, Overseas should be well suited, while the drop in class, 3kg claim from Wendy Peel and the firm track at Eagle Farm all look to be advantages. He can hit his straps on Wednesday.
