Eagle Farm is set to play host to nine metropolitan races on Saturday, April 2, and HorseBetting’s Queensland racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie selections for the program. While Brisbane received quite a bit of rain throughout the week, the surface at Eagle Farm drains notoriously well and has come up a Good 4. There aren’t any Group races on this program, but there is a sense of festival fever in the air with a number of horses returning to the track in preparation for the Brisbane Winter Carnival. Racing will get underway at 11:53am AEST, and the rail is set out +1m for the entire course.

Best Bet at Eagle Farm – Bigboyroy

Chris Waller and James Orman combine in the penultimate race with Bigboyroy who is resuming off a monster win in the Magic Millions Open on January 15. The five-year-old son of Dissident won the 1800m feature at the Gold Coast by 3.75 lengths in a canter, leading all of the way under a masterful ride from Kerrin McEvoy. Waller has kept him in Queensland since, trialling him at Deagon on March 22 behind Release The Beans over 1050m, which should set him up nicely for this first-up assault. Although having never won when first-up before, Bigboyroy has placed in six of his seven first-up runs, so he is never far away. Waller scratched this galloper from the final race over the day over 1400m in preference for the 1200m race, where he has drawn beautifully in barrier two. Orman will either lead or follow the likes of You Make Me Smile and Rexx, who are both noted leaders over these shorter trips. Bigboyroy could have turned the corner in his career and could be a player over the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Best BetRace 8 – Bigboyroy (#2) $4.50 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Eagle Farm – Street Dancer

Street Dancer lines up in his second start for David Vandyke after starting his career with Anthony Cummings in New South Wales. The four-year-old son of Pride Of Dubai lined up over 1600m at Eagle Farm in his only Queensland start on March 16 where he ran second, four lengths behind Laraina. He was caught in no-man’s land for the entirety of that race, the leader and eventual winner crawled out in front and the rail was on fire that day, so he had everything against him, but now out to 1800m, the rail back into the +1m position and a good draw, Street Dancer will take some serious beating. Kyle Wilson-Taylor retains the ride, so the gelding will only have 54kg on his back – 1.5kg less than any other horse. In Sydney, Street Dancer ran second to Love Tap in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes over this distance and then finished a long way behind Montefilia in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, so if he brings that form to a Class 3, he should be winning.

Next BestRace 3 – Street Dancer (#14) $7.50 with Bet365

Best Value at Eagle Farm – Starla

Chris Waller has taken a swag of horses to Eagle Farm on Saturday, with three horses in the last race of the afternoon. One of those three is Starla, a five-year-old mare who lines up in what will be her third start at the track. The daughter of Snitzel ran a solid fourth behind the highly talented Contemptuous over 1200m on March 12, where she was doing her best work through the line, suggesting that the rise to 1400m fifth-up will be in her wheelhouse. Samantha Collett stays aboard after riding her on that occasion, so that is a big advantage, while they have again drawn well in barrier seven to land in behind the speed and be produced late. Prior to her last run, Starla had form around Snapdancer in Group 3 level, while she had also run well behind Tycoonist in a Benchmark 88 at Randwick. She can be winning this Class 6 Handicap – even with 57kg.

Best ValueRace 9 – Starla (#3) $11 with Neds
