Mo Donegal Gives Pletcher Seventh Wood Memorial

MO DONEGAL (c, 3, Uncle Mo–Callingmissbrown, by Pulpit) returned to the site of his previous career best victory in the GII Remsen S. to stamp his ticket to the GI Kentucky Derby in Aqueduct's GII Wood Memorial S. Saturday. Third when last seen in Gulfstream's GIII Holy Bull S., the $250,000 KEESEP buy was dispatched at 2-1 over a track more friendly to closers. Mo Doegal was off a breath slow, but not as slow as race favorite Morello (Classic Empire), who prefers to run on the front end. Early Voting () took the lead, carving out a half-mile in :47.75 as Mo Donegal bided his time at the back. He progressed up the fence to be right behind the leader turning for home. Switched out in the lane, Mo Donegal sailed past Early Voting late to get the win.
