Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 9, 2022 Journalists Posted April 9, 2022 GOLDEN PAL (c, 4, Uncle Mo–Lady Shipman, by Midshipman) was at his brilliant best when making his return to the races in Saturday's GII Shakertown S. at Keeneland, as he set a searching pace over a turf course with plenty of juice in it and never let anything near him, scoring by five resounding lengths. Winner of this track's GII Woodford S. and the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint in his final two starts at three, the bay was the 3-5 chalk and rocketed away from gate 10 to establish a clear lead within a matter of yards. Allowed to make the running while racing in about the two path, he covered his opening quarter in a nigh-on-unbelievable :20.94 and maintained a daylight advantage on his rivals on the turn. Still off the fence turning for home, he tossed up a half-mile in an other-worldly :43.58 and coasted home from there to take it by about five lengths in 1:02.21. Johnny Unleashed (Colonel John) was second at 70-1, while Gear Jockey (Twirling Candy) rounded out the triple. Sales history: $325,000 RNA Ylg '19 KEESEP.
