Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club is auctioning a number of breeding straws to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital’s Good Friday Appeal.

In a magnanimous gesture from several people in our sport, straws to the following sires have kindly been donated – Aussie Secret, Bernardo, Fabregas, Out Of Range and Zack Monelli.

The benevolent cause will involve a silent auction, with all money raised generously donated to the Good Friday Appeal.

Bids are now open and will close at 4pm on Wednesday, 13 April.

Bidders can email oalcock@grv.org.au to receive a confirmation reply.

Breeding straws are available to:

Aussie Secret – Stud Fee $1,650: Newcomer to the stud ranks, which was a prolific winner of 33 of his 65 starts, highlighted by the Group 1 Hobart Thousand last December. Also qualified for last year’s G1 Melbourne Cup final and earned $271,336 in prizemoney.

Bernardo – Stud Fee $3,300: Talented sprinter that won 13 races in an injury-restricted career, also running second in Group 1 Harrison-Dawson and a G2 Bendigo Cup finalist. At stud he has produced G1 winner Aussie Secret and G3 Great Chase victor Dr. Tucker.

Fabregas – Stud Fee $3,300: Group 1 National Sprint champion in 2012 and won 12 of his 13 race starts. Outstanding sire of Group winners and record-breakers, with his progeny including Dundee Osprey, Aston Bolero, No Donuts, Pindari Express, Fabregal and Chasin’ Crackers.

Out Of Range – Stud Fee $2,000: Superbly-bred, dual G1 winner of the Silver Chief and National Derby and litter brother to G1 Topgun hero Poke The Bear. Also a half-brother to another G1 winner in Hooked On Scotch. Progeny includes multiple Group placegetter Hamillson.

Zack Monelli – Stud fee $1,650: Western Australian star that boasted an exceptional strike rate, winning 27 of his 52 starts, highlighted by the G1 Galaxy. Was runner-up in the G1 Perth Cup and contested four G1 events in Victoria. Holds Mandurah’s 490m track record.

NOTE: Greyhound racing will be conducted on Good Friday for the first time in 2022, with Healesville, Traralgon and Geelong set to hold race meetings.
