Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 12, 2022 Journalists Share Posted April 12, 2022 What Pakenham Races Where Pakenham Racecourse – 420 Nar Nar Goon–Longwarry Rd, Tynong VIC 3813 When Thursday, April 14, 2022 First Race 5:45pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes Pakenham Racecourse hosts another twilight fixture on Thursday night with an interesting eight-race card for punters to dissect. A maiden over 1600m starts the evening at 5:45pm AEST, while the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young stable look to play a key hand in the last race, which starts at 9:15pm. The quaddie kicks off in race five, which commences at 7:45pm. BEST BET: RUPERT’S DELIGHT Damien Oliver gets the ride here, which obviously a huge tick for the Robbie Griffiths & Matthew De Kock-trained Rupert’s Delight. He has been pretty consistent his last three starts having run two seconds and a close-up fifth (0.6L) which was his latest effort at Sandown Hillside. In fact, in his last three starts total beaten distance has only been three lengths. The only knock on him is that he has had 14 starts to crack the duck and that hasn’t happened, but this race looks to be his best chance yet. He races over the mile for the first time, he settles on pace and we think he can stick on well to the line. The Michael & Wayne Hawkes horse, Stavanger, looks to be the main danger in the race. Best BetRace 1 – Rupert’s Delight $3.10 with Ladbrokes NEXT BEST: WOLF REIN We are going off Wolf Rein’s strong second at Sale over 1200m on March 6 here. She led that race for a long way and with Liam Riordan on again, we think she is a chance at leading all of the way. She was only fair at Bairnsdale when fourth last time but is fitter now. A good track is a slight concern, but if there is any rain around on Thursday morning, that will be a big plus for this horse. Bahama for Team Hawkes looks to be a real contender in this, and Our Shinko for Phillip Stokes has been knocking on the door after two recent seconds. An each-way play may be best on a filly who is still learning, but improving. Next BestRace 2 – Wolf Rein $3.40 with Ladbrokes VALUE BET: POUVOIR DE SOLE This horse likes this track and comes in well after a solid first-up win at Ballarat last start after she stormed home to win. Lloyd Kennewell keeps her at 1200m again and has put Zac Spain on, and we anticipate the tactics will be similar to last time where she has one last crack at them from the 200m mark. Any pace in the race will be a bonus. Black Opal and The Squire look to be strong contenders in this race, so if Spain can get a cart into the race on one of their backs, even better. Spain knows this horse pretty well now after six previous starts on her and barrier 14 isn’t a huge negative as he will likely hold her back early. Backmarker, wide barrier = risky bet, but it should also mean value.
