Shooting For Gold will begin his Brisbane Winter Carnival campaign in Saturday’s Listed Ascot Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm.

The Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted-trained four-year-old has built an impressive record in his 13 start career, winning seven races and placing on a further three occasions.

With three wins from four starts at Eagle Farm, the stable will be hoping that the son of Shooting To Win can resume as a winner.

It’s another win for Shooting For Gold!

Co-trained Matthew Hoysted told HorseBetting that the gelding has improved during his spell, while he has also sorted out his barrier manners, which he believes will take the horse a long way this winter.

Shooting For Gold raced only twice during the Queensland Summer Carnival, finishing third to Zoustyle in November at the Sunshine Coast, before failing as an even-money favourite in the Listed Bribie Handicap on December 11 at this track and distance.

The chestnut gelding will be ridden by Jaden Lloyd on Saturday, replacing Boris Thornton and Baylee Nothdurft, who have both had strong affiliations with the classy galloper.

Drawn barrier five and on the minimum weight, Shooting For Gold will have a good chance of turning the tables on Zoustyle who is the $2.80 favourite with online bookmakers.

Shooting For Gold ($4.80) is the second favourite in his racetrack return, while his stablemate Kylease is a $13 chance.
