Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 14, 2022 Journalists Share Posted April 14, 2022 What Ascot Races Where Ascot Racecourse – 71 Grandstand Rd, Ascot WA 6104 When Friday, April 15, 2022 First Race 1:08pm AWST Visit Ladbrokes HorseBetting’s Western Australian racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie selections for this year’s Good Friday races at Ascot. The track is currently rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 2m for the entire course, so we expect most horses to get their chance on what is traditionally a fair surface. The first of nine races is scheduled to jump at 1:08pm AWST. Ascot Best Bet – Searchin’ Roc’s While the Majorie Charleson Classic isn’t a black-type race, there is still $100,000 up for grabs with a bunch of quality fillies and mares set to go around. Searchin’ Roc’s is one of those who just oozes class, as we have seen in her five wins from eight career starts. The three-year-old has a terrific record at Ascot with two wins and a second from her four starts at the course, with her only failure being when she finished seventh in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) in December. The daughter of Awesome Rock has trialled once in preparation for this 1200m contest which should have her nice and fit and ready to win. Joseph Azzopardi is having his first sit on the five-time winner but has plenty of skill, so we are not worried about that first-time booking. Best BetRace 8 – Searchin’ Roc’s (#7) $3.70 with Palmerbet Ascot Next Best – Pennys Afield In the fourth race of the day, Chris Parnham will hop aboard the Michael Lane-trained Pennys Afield. The four-year-old mare rarely runs a bad race given her sharp turn of foot, which we have seen in all of her six starts. The daughter of Reliable Man was a good winner two starts back, before having no luck in her most recent outing behind Blow Me Out at Pinjarra over 1400m. She gets to a big track at Ascot on Friday which will suit, while barrier five should ensure that she is out of trouble in this small field, allowing her to finish out wide under the arches. The rise to 1500m suits and Parnham sticks, so we are happy to be with her again. Next BestRace 4 – Pennys Afield (#) $2.80 with Ladbrokes Ascot Best Value – Strakin We are always happy to back anything Chris Parnham rides in Perth given his impressive strike rate, and that is what we will be doing in the first leg of the quaddie. In race six, Parnham climbs onto the Todd Harvey-trained Strakin for the first time in her career. The four-year-old mare by I’m All The Talk has won one of her four races and placed second on another occasion, with her past two runs seeing her finish worse than midfield. In her last race, all the way back in August, she finished seventh of nine but was beaten less than two lengths over 1300m. She should be ready to go in the hands of an astute stable first-up over 1000m, while barrier three can allow Parnham to be handy to the speed in the sprint race. Best ValueRace 6 – Strakin (#6) $7 with Neds Friday quaddie picks for Ascot Ascot quadrella selections Leg 1: 1-3-6-7 Leg 2: 1-5-7 Leg 3: 2-4-7-8 Leg 4: 1-3-4-7-9 Investment: $240 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
