Stawell Cup Top Tip – Excelleration

The Stawell Cup over 2000m is the feature event on Sunday afternoon and we are siding with the Richard Cully-trained Excelleration. The five-year-old gelding has always shown plenty of ability throughout his career, but it has been over 12 months since he lasted tasted success in a race. The Excelebration gelding has a turn of foot that many of his rivals simply cannot match. He resumed at 1400m and steps up to the 2000m second-up from a spell, which looks to suit him perfectly considering what he has shown in the past. He finished second behind the progressive Hosier last winter, which was just three starts ago and a similar effort here on Sunday, should see him break a long drought out of the winner’s stall.

Best Bet at Stawell – Mckeever

Our best bet of the day Mckeever will be looking to make it three wins in succession following a couple of smart wins at Ballarat and then Bendigo last time out. The Symon Wilde-trained Deep Field gelding has been racing up speed and asserting his dominance early in the home straight at both of his last two wins. Despite the tricky barrier (#7) we expect Linda Meech to have the four-year-old lobbed into the one-one and can stalk the speed once again. This is no harder than the races he has won recently and with a similar run in transit, it is hard to see how Mckeever gets beaten. We’re happy to launch into the $2.20 with online bookmakers.

Next Best at Stawell – Chill With Teejay

Peter Hardacre opts to send his four-year-mare Chill With Teejay to the Stawell 1300m following a dominant win at Mount Gambier on April 1. Having sat outside the leader on that day, the Delago Deluxe mare managed to hit the lead inside the final furlong and kicked clear to score by just over a length, with seemingly still plenty left in the tank. From barrier one, she draws to gain a suck run in transit and with even luck in the home straight, she has the turn of foot to be able to put a field away like this with ease. The $3.90 on offer from Palmerbet looks inviting.
