Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 15, 2022 Journalists Share Posted April 15, 2022 We are pretty excited for the weekend here at Punt Drunk this morning, as exciting filly Fireburn looks to rewrite the history books. No filly has won the Triple Crown since Burst in 1992, so Fireburn will be looking to etch her name alongside the 1992 winner’s. So will she burn the turf, or will the Fireburn bubble burst? TRIPLE CROWN GLORY Considering that no Golden Slipper had won another since She Will Reign in 2013, it’s bizarre that we are talking about a potential Triple Crown winner. Fireburn dominated her rivals in the Golden Slipper and then again in the ATC Sires’ Produce, but now she has to do it over 1600m in the Champagne Stakes. With just a field of five rivals to contend with, online bookmakers have installed the history-seeker as a $1.50 favourite – which seems about right. She’s a star, bet ’til it hurts – responsibly of course! In this instance, after an impressive win on Oaks Day at Flemington against a field of slow horses, people were calling Espiona the reincarnation of Winx. Now sure, Winx didn’t win all of her races – she took a while to get going – but this filly was the all-in favourite for nearly every race this autumn: the Doncaster, Australian Oaks, Vinery Stud Stakes, All Star Mile etc. – you get the drift. Here is a list of races she has won this Autumn: Now, on Saturday this “boom” filly returns to the races – we think she can win – but it is in an average Group 3 against her own age and sex. The next Winx… spare us. No doubt we will be seeing more of Espiona over the coming seasons. #RDCBestOf2021 pic.twitter.com/hgYoAoB0Hi — Racing.com (@Racing) December 8, 2021 About Punt Drunk Welcome to Punt Drunk – our daily column covering all the latest horse racing and punting controversies, dramas and headline news.
