Metropolitan racing on Wednesday heads to Canterbury Park for an eight-race program. HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst has looked through the card and picked out his best bets, with his top tip coming up in race eight. The track is rated a Heavy 8 and the rail is out 6m for the entire course, which should give on-speed horses an advantage – as is often the case at this track. The first race of the afternoon will get underway at 12:50pm AEST, while the quaddie legs kick off at 3:10pm.

Canterbury Best Bet – The Art Of Flying

The Art Of Flying broke his maiden in fine style last time out at this track and distance, leading all of the way to win by two-and-a-quarter lengths. The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained three-year-old now has to do it against tougher opposition, but we are confident that the horse has come back in super order this preparation, so the rise in grade shouldn’t be too much of a concern. Strangely, James McDonald does not have a ride in the race, so he won’t be on board this gelding on Wednesday, but Tim Clark is a very nice booking for this horse. Clark is one of the best front-running riders in the country, so from barrier nine he can get the last-start winner out of the gates and up on speed, which should be enough to see him kick clear in the straight.

Best Bet

Race 8 – Silk #3 The Art Of Flying (9)

3yo Gelding | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Tim Clark (59.5kg)

$4.80 with Ladbrokes

Canterbury Next Best – Resonator

In the second event on the program, Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott saddle up two-year-old colt Resonator. The son of Brazen Beau has only raced once, finishing a touch worse than midfield in the Group 3 Breeders’ Plate behind Sejardan when sent out as an $8 chance with online bookmakers. With two recent trials under his belt, Resonator looks ready to fire fresh on what is going to be yet another heavy Sydney track. In his most recent trial outing, Resonator finished second to Paris Dior, who won the $1 million Percy Sykes Stakes on Day 2 of The Championships, while Zou Tiger – the winner of the heat before that – ran second on debut in town. With the blinkers off for the first time, Tim Clark could let this colt bowl along in front and prove too hard to catch.

Next Best

Race 2 – Silk #9 Resonator (4)

2yo Colt | T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | J: Tim Clark (57kg)

$6.50 with Neds

Canterbury Value Bet – Lekvarte

We have a fair opinion of the Joseph Pride-trained filly Lekvarte, and while she got rolled at short odds at Doomben in her most recent start, we are confident that she can bounce back on Wednesday. The grey three-year-old by Reliable Man won really stylishly back on February 15, before having zero luck at Newcastle in her subsequent start and then tackling Group 3 company in the Kembla Grange Classic. She was a touch plain at Doomben most recently on a heavy track over 2000m, but she’s had a freshen, bypassed the Australian Oaks and comes back to midweek grade. Jay Ford will just have to produce a good steer from barrier 14.

Best Value

Race 6 – Silk #13 Lekvarte (14)

3yo Filly | T: Joseph Pride | J: Jay Ford (55kg)

$15 with Bet365
