Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 19, 2022 Journalists Share Posted April 19, 2022 What Newcastle Races Where Newcastle Jockey Club – Darling St Broadmeadow NSW 2292 When Thursday, April 21, 2022 First Race 12:40pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes An eight-race program will be contested at Newcastle Jockey Club on Thursday, so HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst has presented you with his best bets and quaddie numbers, along with odds from Australia’s best bookmakers. Racing is scheduled to get underway at 12:40pm AEST. Newcastle Best Bet – Newly Wed The Hawkes camp will resume their promising three-year-old filly Newly Wed on Thursday in an attempt to win a maiden. The filly by Savabeel has raced twiced in Melbourne, running fourth on debut and then finishing a close second at her second start. Both of those starts have been at 1300m, so she is racing in a bit of unchartered territory over 1200m, but the big track at Newcastle should suit her. From barrier three, Jay Ford can be a little bit closer compared to where she’s been in the past, which could be enough to get her home over the line in front. Best Bet Race 5 – #5 Newly Wed (3) 3yo Filly | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: Jay Ford (58kg) $2.10 with Ladbrokes Newcastle Next Best – Strombus In the last race of the afternoon, John O’Shea & Tommy Berry combine with last-start winner Strombus. The three-year-old gelded son of Territories did enough to win first-up at this track over 1200m on a bottomless deck, so getting out to 1400m on a dry track should see him very fit despite being only second-up. While Hugh Bowman rode this gelding first-up and in his two trials, he won’t be riding at the meeting, so Berry will take over the riding duties which is no disadvantage. He can go forward from barrier 11 and be too good for this field. Next Best Race 8 – #9 Strombus (11) 3yo Gelding | T: John O’Shea | J: Tommy Berry (59.5kg) $3.20 with Bet365 Newcastle Best Value – Fine Ruby Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou are in-form after a treble at Eagle Farm on Saturday, so they will be hoping that the streak can continue on Thursday when they team up with Chad Schofield in the second leg of the quaddie with Fine Ruby. The five-year-old gelding has shown a bit of ability in his 11 starts, winning two and placing on two other occasions. Both wins came on Good tracks and so too did one of the minor placings, so he should relish getting off a Heavy 8 and back onto a Good 4 on Thursday. The son of Rubick was a big drifter in betting first-up but he still made some good late ground to finish five lengths off Bella Violet at Hawkesbury. He is a winner second-up and the 1850m should suit, so we are expecting a sharp improvement from this galloper. Best Value Race 6 – #1 Fine Ruby (15) 5yo Gelding | T: Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou | J: Chad Schofield (60.5kg) $14 with Neds Thursday quaddie picks for Newcastle Newcastle quadrella selections Thursday, April 21, 2022 2-5 1-3-4-9 1-6-7-12 3-7-8-9-10 Investment: $160 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
