Ascot WA betting tips

Two meetings will be run and won on ANZAC Day in Western Australia, but HorseBetting’s WA racing analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers from the feature meeting at Ascot. Eight races will be contested across the course of the afternoon on a Good 4-rated track, while the rail is out 6m for the entire course. The field for the first race of the afternoon is scheduled to face the starter at 1:09pm AWST.

Diggers Cup Best Bet at Ascot – Marocchino

In Marocchino’s five starts in 2022, he has not been beaten all that far in Group 2 and Listed company, so we are expecting him to thrive back to Rating 84+ company. The five-year-old gelding has had a bit of a freshen since running fifth in the Listed South West Autumn Cup (2300m) at Pinjarra on March 20, so he should have a bit more zip in his legs for this 1800m assignment. The Lou Luciani-trained son of Maschino has won five races at Ascot and he has a good affiliation with jockey Jason Whiting. From barrier six, Marocchino is likely to go forward and be handy to the speed in the seven-horse field and he should prove pretty tough to run down.

Best Bet

Race 7 – Marocchino Silk #1 Marocchino (6)

5yo Gelding | T: Lou Luciani | J: Jason Whiting (60kg)

Next Best Bet – Grace Du Roi

The barriers will stay in the 1800m position for the final event on the program where we are pretty happy to be with Adam Durrant’s three-year-old filly Grace Du Roi. The daughter of Sir Prancealot has won two of her four starts, including a nice three-quarter-length win at Pinjarra on April 13 over the mile. Now out to 1800m for the first time, this filly looks well suited to get an ideal run in transit and pull away from her rivals yet again. Clint Johnston-Porter stays in the saddle from barrier five which is perfect, while she only has to carry and extra 0.5kg from her last win, which she will hardly notice. She should be too good again.

Next Best

Best Value at Ascot – Tiffany Street

Daniel Morton and Chris Parnham combine in the fourth with two-year-old filly Tiffany Street. This first starter has had two trials, including a nice win at Belmont on March 28 over 1000m. The daughter of Street Boss finished a fair way back in her first trial, running seven lengths behind Swear To God, but that colt has since had three starts for two metropolitan victories. Brad Rawiller has ridden Tiffany Street in both trials, however Chris Parnham will do the riding on race day which is certainly no disadvantage, while barrier three gives the gun hoop plenty of options in the run. She showed plenty of improvement from her first to her second trial, so we expect her to improve again on race day.

2yo Filly | T: Daniel Morton | J: Chris Parnham (55kg)
