After Hawkesbury Race Club hosted its standalone Saturday meeting on the weekend, we are back at Clarendon this Thursday with eight provincial races. HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the meeting, which is set to begin at 12:10pm AEST. The track is rated a Heavy 8 and the rail is in the true position for the entire course.

Best Bet at Hawkesbury – Stormy Legend

In the opening event on the program, Les Bridge and Jason Collett combine with Stormy Legend who looks primed to win his maiden. The son of Not A Single Doubt has been runner-up on four occasions from just the seven career starts, with form around the likes of Gorshin and Barrichello earlier in the year. The four-year-old is now third-up for the preparation and gets out to 2000m, which looks as though it should suit. From barrier two, Collett will have the galloper in a nice spot just in behind the speed, which should give him a fantastic winning chance.

Next Best at Hawkesbury – Queenmaker

Edward Cummings’ Queenmaker looks well placed to break her maiden status at her fourth career start in a 1300m Maiden Handicap. The filly by Tavistock was last seen in mid-March, running third over the mile behind Money From The Sky and Taizai which looks to be the right form for this race. Since that run, Cummings gave the three-year-old a tick-over trial at Rosehill over 1030m, and while she didn’t beat a runner home, she wasn’t asked for an effort either. The brief freshen and soft trial should suit this filly as she now comes back to 1300m on Thursday. She will have to be given a good ride, as barrier 11 is a touch awkward, but she should be fit enough to give this race a shake.

Next Best

Best Value at Hawkesbury – California Press

Peter & Paul Snowden saddle up California Press on Thursday in what will be his fifth attempt at winning a race. The son three-year-old colt by Press Statement has had four starts for a second, a third and two fourths, so he looks primed to get the job done in this 1100m Maiden Plate. Two starts back at Goulburn, California Press was heavily backed and looked to be the winner the entire way up the straight but was beaten in the shadows of the post. He will take up the running from barrier six and should be too zippy for this field over the 1100m.

Best Value
