Godolphin homebred MATAREYA (f, 3, Pioneerof the Nile–Innovative Idea, by Bernardini) scored her third in as many appearances as she justified even-money favoritism in Churchill's GII Eight Belles S. Friday. Last seen romping in Keeneland's GIII Beaumont S. Apr. 10, the bay saved ground just behind the pace early, tipped out to challenge at the head of the lane and wore down frontrunner Pretty Birdie (Bird Song) en route to a 2 1/4-length tally over that foe. Wicked Halo (Gun Runner) was third. The winner stopped the clock in 1:21.86. Lifetime Record: 7-4-2-0.
