Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 8, 2022 Journalists Posted May 8, 2022 Hot on the heels of the news that Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) will miss the G1 Cazoo Derby, Ballydoyle pulled another rabbit out of the hat in Stone Age (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}–Bonanza Creek {Ire}) on Sunday to add to an increasingly outrageous clutch of Epsom Classic contenders to soften the blow. Had the G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy hero made the gig on the first Saturday in June, it is far from certain he would have been able to contain the threat from several stablemates who have staked their claim this week. After all three UK Derby trials were scooped from Wednesday to Saturday, Peter Brant, Susan Magnier and Michael Tabor's G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud runner-up who was coming into Leopardstown's G3 Derby Trial off a nine-length maiden win at Navan Mar. 29 posted arguably the most impressive of them all. Sent straight to the front by Ryan Moore as he had been last time, the 10-11 favourite opened up from the top of the straight to do it like Bolshoi Ballet (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) had in this 12 months ago. At the line, there was a 5 1/2-length margin back to Glory Daze (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}), who was in turn a neck ahead of French Claim (Fr) (French Fifteen {Fr}). It really has been a week of tribute to the legend of Galileo, who not only clinched the worldwide stakes record from Danehill in Wednesday's Listed Cheshire Oaks but whose progeny have cleaned up in all bar one of the Classic trials on offer. This was stakes winner number 353, with Stone Age following Thoughts of June (GB), Changingoftheguard (GB), Star of India (GB), United Nations (GB) and History (Ire).
