Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 12, 2022 Journalists Share Posted May 12, 2022 What South Australian Derby Day 2022 Where Morphettville Racecourse- 79 Morphett Road, Morphettville, SA, 5043 When Saturday, May 14, 2022 First Race 11:37am ACST Visit Ladbrokes It is South Australian Derby Day on Saturday afternoon where nine races are set down for judgement at Morphettville. We look to be racing on an improving Soft 5, with the rail out 3m from the 1800m to the winning post. The Morphettville Parks track will host the first three races on the card, with the track also a Soft 5, with the rail out from the 1000m to the winning post. Racing is set to commence at 11:37am ACST (12:07pm AEST) with our Morphettville tips layed out below. On the back of a fast speed, the Ilovethiscity gelding produced a strong finishing burst to finish the best and showed that he should appreciate every bit of the 1400m. From barrier 10, we expect Mark Zahra will ride him cold and have him settled close to the rear of the field once again. With Cold One and Sirius Princess set to make this a fast run 1400m event, the race looks perfectly set up for a backmarker like Kings Consort to balance up upon turning and unleash down the centre of the track. The $3.90 with online betting sites looks inviting. SA Sires Produce Stakes Race 3 – #2 Kings Consort (10) 2yo Gelding | T: Anthony & Sam Freedman | J: Mark Zahra (57.5kg) $3.90 with Palmerbet Best Bet at Morphettville – Illation There is no prizes for tipping a $1.30 shot as our best bet of the day, but Illation simply smashes this lot in the Adelaide Guineas. The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained colt is a young star on the rise and considering how easily he bolted in the HC Nitschke Stakes, we expect the So You Think colt will make it three wins from as many career starts on Saturday. He draws low once again in barrier three and if Mark Zahra can have him settled in the moving line with cover, the race may just be over within the first 200m. When asked for an effort at the top of the straight, we expect Illation to put a couple of lengths on these and produced a similarly jaw-dropping performance. Add him into every multi. Best Bet Race 4 – #1 Illation (3) 3yo Colt | T: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr | J: Mark Zahra (57.5kg) $1.30 with Neds Next Best at Morphettville – Miss Daniel The Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained Miss Daniel is set to resume off a seven-month spell and looks the one to be with in the first race of the day. Despite not winning since her debut victory in August, the three-year-old filly has always been touted as one with above average ability. Angus Chung hops back on board for the first time since that debut effort and with his 3kg claim from barrier two, they look really well placed. With plenty of speed engaged in the race, we expect the young apprentice to take a sit off the speed, peel out on the home turn and have Miss Daniel savaging the line. The $4.20 with online bookmakers looks to be a steal. Next Best Race 1 – #12 Miss Daniel (2) 3yo Filly | T: Richard & Chantelle Jolly | J: Angus Chung (a3) (57kg) $4.20 with Bet365 Best Value at Morphettville – The Partisan The Kristi Evans-trained The Partisan comes to the Morphettville 1000m scamper on the back of a convincing trial win at Murray Bridge on May 5. He is first-up under race day conditions following a 36-week spell and having finished second at both of his first-up runs so far in his career, we’re happy to be with him at a nice price. The five-year-old gelding is a genuine front runner, so barrier 16 should negate any issues with him getting trapped wide. With a win and three runner-up efforts to his name from five runs, we have no doubt he will be there or thereabouts when it matters most and with $17 on offer with Unibet betting, we’re happy to be with The Partisan in the “Get Out”. Best Value Race 9 – #8 The Partisan (16) 5yo Gelding | T: Kristi Evans | J: Stacey Metcalfe (57.5kg) $9.50 with Unibet South Australian Derby Day quaddie tips for Morphettville Here are our free Morphettville tips for the quaddie races, which will cost you $60 to place a full unit.
