Sunshine Coast tips for January 7 2022

Sunday’s racing at the Sunshine Coast has been transferred to the Poly Track, meaning that all 10 races can be safely run and won. HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst presents you with his best bets, value bet and quaddie numbers for the program, which is set to begin at 11:40am AEST. The track is rated synthetic and the rail will be in the true position for the entirety of the course.

Best Bet at the Sunshine Coast – Checkers

The local trainers regularly have a mortgage on these Sunshine Coast races, especially on the poly track, so we are with a couple of Stuart Kendrick’s runners on Sunday. In the final race of the afternoon, Kendrick and in-form apprentice Angela Jones combine with the ever-consistent Checkers in a Benchmark 65 over 1400m. The grey five-year-old has had four starts on the synthetic for a win and two minor placings, so we know that he will handle the track, while his earlier form around Festival Prince, the stakes-performed Mystic Aroma and subsequent city winner General Dubai looks brilliant on paper. He can win the ‘get out stakes’.

Best Bet

Race 10 – Silk #1 Checkers (6)

5yo Gelding | T: Stuart Kendrick | J: Angela Jones (a1.5)(61.5kg)

$4.40 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at the Sunshine Coast – Rose Of Duporth

Kendrick and Tiff Brooker combine earlier on in the afternoon with last-start winner Rose Of Duporth, who now steps out to 1400m in Benchmark 58 company following her 1200m maiden win last time out. The three-year-old filly by Duporth had previously placed on eight occasions from 14 starts, so it was a well deserved maiden victory, but the style in which she did it suggested that she can now go on with the job. The 3.3-length win would have filled this filly with confidence, so we expect her to once again take plenty of beating over the seven furlongs. She does rise 5kg in weight, which is the only concern.

Next Best

Race 7 – Silk #6 Rose Of Duporth (3)

3yo Filly | T: Stuart Kendrick | J: Tiffani Brooker (57kg)

$3.20 with Bet365

Best Value at the Sunshine Coast – Ekaterina

Ekaterina was good on debut when third to the undefeated Yiska at Doomben, so we are expecting the Heathcote-trained filly to improve out of sight. The two-year-old daughter of Russian Revolution is a half sister to gun three-year-old Startantes, so if she has some of her big sister’s ability, we expect her to go close. She has drawn the carpark in barrier 15, but with a couple of scratchings, she should come in a couple, but she will still jump from the outside alley. Leah Kilner is riding well, and she will have a bit of time to make a call as to where she settles on the debut-placegetter. Ekaterina can win at start two.

Best Value

Race 3 – Silk #8 Ekaterina (15)

2yo Filly | T: Rob Heathcote | J: Leah Kilner (55kg)

$2.20 with Neds
