Just six races will be run and won at Kembla Grange Racecourse on Tuesday, May 17, with HorseBetting’s top pick coming up in the opening event on the program. The track is rated a Heavy 10, while the rail is out 6m from the 1100m to the winning post and then just 3m for the remainder of the course. Racing is set to get underway at 1:25pm AEST. For all of our best bets and quaddie numbers, continue reading.

Kembla Grange Best Bet – Tavi L’Amour

John O’Shea and Tommy Berry combine with the first favourite of the day in a Maiden Handicap over the mile with the talented Tavi L’amour. The three-year-old filly by Tavistock has raced four times for two minor placings, including a last-start second to Chilko Lake at Warwick Farm over 1400m on a Heavy 9. The filly also holds a nomination for June’s Queensland Oaks (2200m), so the stable clearly holds her in high regard. Having drawn ideally in barrier three, Berry will have this four-start maiden in a great spot, giving her every chance to lose the maiden tag and win herself a shot at winter riches in Queensland.

Kembla Grange Next Best – Boomsong

Hopefully we can double our money in the opener and then roll that into race two and back another promising three-year-old, this time in the form of last-start Kembla Grange winner, Boomsong. The Mark Newnham-trained son of Your Song was a comfortable winner in maiden company over 1000m on May 3, leading all of the way to score by two lengths, justifying good backing on the back of some nice trials prior to his first-up run. We first saw Boomsong in December when narrowly beaten on debut at Warwick Farm as favourite, before running eighth at Canterbury on a Good 4. He should get the 1200m no worries at all, while barrier three will allow apprentice hoop Tom Sherry to find the front easily aboard the galloper, control the race and allow him to skip clear once again.

Kembla Grange Value Bet – Ruban Bleu

The Ruban Bleu of old might have been seen at the races on April 24 at Wagga, as the two-time Melbourne metropolitan winner stormed home to finish third in the Wagga Town Plate Prelude at Benchmark 87 level. Now with Matthew Dale, the $300,000-earner looks ready to win for the first time since May, 2020. After getting a mile back in his last run over 1200m, the son of Artie Schiller motored home to go down by just over a length. He goes up in weight, but significantly down in class and finds a very suitable race on a track which will suit. At around $6.50 with online bookmakers, we are happy to step in.
