Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 20, 2022 Journalists Share Posted May 20, 2022 What Darwin Races Where Darwin Turf Club – Buntine Drive, Fannie Bay NT 0820 When Saturday, May 21, 2022 First Race 2:22pm ACST Visit Ladbrokes Darwin Turf Club will host a six race meeting on Saturday, May 21st. Northern Territory specialist David White has brought you the race-by-race betting preview with the top tips, best odds & quaddie selections here. First race is set to start 2:22pm local time. Race 1 – $17,500 Karen Brown Fine Art 0-58 Handicap (1300m) After Pointo’s Pick debut in Rockhampton some two and a half years ago, the four-year-old mare finally won her first race with a four length victory in a 1300m maiden at Fannie Bay on April 14. After finishing sixth at Darwin on New Year’s Day, Pointo’s Pick was then placed in her next five starts before finally achieving that long-awaited win at the 27th attempt. Lumping an extra 4kg on this occasion, but is capable of making it back to back wins. Ima Puppet (Garry Lefoe Jnr/Casey Hunter) has been placed in her past two starts at a 0-54 level and is perhaps the biggest threat. Don’t dismiss Rich Sun (Gary Clarke/Paul Shiers), Kean As A Bean (Jason Manning/Vanessa Arnott) and Ghetto (Phil Cole/Wayne Davis) too lightly. Best Bet Race 1 – #2 Pointo’s Pick (4) T: Tayarn Halter | J: Stan Tsaikos $3.00 with Neds Race 2 – $22,000 TAB 0-76 Handicap (1300m) The former WA five-year-old gelding is making his NT debut and is returning after an eight-month break, but he boasts an imposing record. New faces either fire or fail first up in Darwin, but Giant Leap has only failed to miss a place on four occasions in 16 starts and having champion Top End trainer Gary Clarke in his corner is a big help even with 59kg on his back. Looking For You (Phil Cole/Wayne Davis) is in super form having won three straight, but makes a big step up in grade. Yesugei (Nicole Irwin/Vanessa Arnott) has showed signs since arriving at Fannie Bay that he is above average. It’s a decent race as Brother Bassy (Phil Cole/Casey Hunter) and Mellors (Gary Clarke/Stan Tsaikos) are also pretty handy. Best Bet Race 2 – #1 Giant Leap (1) T: Gary Clarke | J: Paul Shiers $3.20 with Ladbrokes Race 3 – $17,500 TAB Long May We Play Class 2 Handicap (1200m) Very open. Maxaway has done little wrong of late and was a last start second at 0-54 level over 1200m on Anzac Day. With luck the five-year-old gelding could make it two wins in 17 starts and end a drought that stretches back to September 2020 when he won at Donald in Victoria. Siakam (Gary Clarke/Paul Shiers) and Champ D’Or (Chris Nash/Sonja Wiseman) bring class to the table and are good enough to get the cash, but both have raced infrequently and perhaps lack the miles in the legs. The inconsistent Real Reason (Tayarn Halter/Stan Tsaikos) could do anything and Princess Dejour (Jason Manning/Vanessa Arnott) hasn’t raced since Australia Day. Dream Weaver (Chris Pollard/Casey Hunter) is the outsider. Best Bet Race 3 – #5 Maxaway (3) T: Phil Cole | J: Wayne Davis $5.00 with Palmerbet Race 4 – $18,500 bet365 Odds Drift Protect 0-64 Handicap (1200m) The five-year-old mare had 11 starts in NSW in 2020 for one win before arriving in South Australia and clicking into gear. Under Nicole Irwin at Murray Bridge before she relocated to Darwin, Smartkap had seven starts in SA from January 2021-March 2022 for three wins, two seconds, a third and a fourth. A first up third in the Top End over 1100m in 0-64 grade on May 7 suggests that Smartkap is definitely in the mix, especially with the bonus of the inside gate. Obligatory (Gary Clarke/Adam Nicholls) can bounce back after complications last start. Blueant (Tom Logan/Sonja Wiseman) has been handy since arriving in Darwin and Noble War (Tayarn Halter/Paul Shiers) boasts good 0-54 form. To be fair, Little Town Blues (Phil Cole/Wayne Davis) and Thunder Peak (Gary Clarke/Stan Tsaikos) cannot be discarded. Best Bet Race 4 – #5 Smartkap (1) T: Nicole Irwin | J: Vanessa Arnott $7.50 with Betfair Race 5 – $21,000 Silks 4.21 Happy Hour TROBIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1100m) The gelding has hit the ground running since arriving in Darwin and is in line to make it three wins from as many starts. After seven starts in south-east Queensland and far north NSW for one win in a 1410m maiden at Lismore last October, First Crusade made it back to back wins over 1100m in 0-58 grade after debuting at Fannie Bay on April 14. Super Famous (John Peacock/Adam Nicholls) was from disgraced during the Alice Springs Cup Carnival and at his best can mark his Top End debut with a win. Wilsons Prom (Gary Clarke/Sonja Wiseman) brings a decent CV from Victoria, while stablemate Yaroomba (Stan Tsaikos) and Fischer (Tayarn Halter/Casey Hunter) didn’t do much wrong in their first Darwin outing. Best Bet Race 5 – #1 First Crusade (4) T: Garry Lefoe Jnr | J: Paul Shiers $1.70 with Playup Race 6 – $17,500 Sitzler 0-54 Handicap (1100m) Posted one win from six starts in SA before finishing third against 0-62 opposition over 1200m at Morphettville on Melbourne Cup Day last year. Returned six months later to make his first appearance for the Gary Clarke stable with the four-year-old gelding finishing fifth at a 0-58 level over 1000m on Alice Springs Cup Day on May 1. We Will Remember has the class to be a serious contender when he makes his Fannie Bay debut. Stablemate Chief Mondo (Paul Shiers) appears to be getting better after two minor placings in April, while Star Of Monsoon (John Peacock/Adam Nicholls), Koa (Peter Stennett/Stan Tsaikos) and Blueberry Boy (Tom Logan/Sonja Wiseman) from SA are realistically contending for third. Best Bet Race 6 – #3 We Will Remember (5) T: Gary Clarke | J: Casey Hunter $3.10 with Neds Saturday quaddie picks for Darwin Darwin quadrella selections Saturda, May 21, 2022 5 5 1 3 Investment: $1 for 100% More AU racing tips The post Darwin races betting tips & quaddie picks | Saturday, 21/5/22 appeared first on Horse Betting.
