Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 24, 2022 Journalists Share Posted May 24, 2022 This week, the team at The Follow Files have found you a couple of runners from the Morphettville meeting that we can back with a bit of confidence next time we see them step out on a racetrack. Given Doomben’s meeting was cancelled, another heavy Rosehill track, and an average meeting at Flemington, we went to the last day of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival to try to find some future winners. While we don’t expect that these horses will turn into Group 1 winners, they should be able to pick off a nice race or two in the not-too-distant future. Morphettville | Track: Good 4 | Rail: +5m from 1200m-Winning Post, +3m from 1800m-1200m, True Remainder Race 1: Benchmark 80 Handicap (2015m) | Time: 2:04.39 Horse to follow: CROWN MINT (3rd) CROWN MINT is certainly no world-beater, but the Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle-trained four-year-old has enough ability to win a race soon. The son of Hallowed Crown has placed fourth in two Listed races throughout his career, but he has not quite been able to crack it at the top level. On Saturday, he got a long way back over the 2015m journey and had too much work to do late, but he was still strong through the line to get up and run third. When to bet: Crown Mint is nominated this Saturday at Murray Bridge in an 1800m Benchmark 68 where he can be more than competitive. Considering he has started at double-figure odds at his past four starts, we expect him to be a more than backable price, despite the big drop in grade. Although desperately unlucky, the talented four-year-old didn’t really have a gut-buster in his first run since Boxing Day, so he no doubt would have pulled up well in preparation for his next start – hopefully with more luck. The son of So You Think was a decent drifter in betting on Saturday ($6-$9), but despite that, he still looked the winner at the top of the straight. The runs never came and he went across the line hard-held back in ninth, yet it was better than it looks on paper. When to bet: This guy has performed pretty well in some nice races throughout his 15-start career, so we expect to see the stable cross the border with him this winter and head to a nice race at Flemington. Seeing as though he started his prep in a low-rating race, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him go to a similar race in a fortnight with a view to building some confidence.
