The Ballarat Turf Club is set to host a competitive eight-race meeting this Sunday afternoon. With a bit of luck, HorseBetting’s Victorian form expert can steer you into a couple of winners. The track is rated a Soft 5 with the rail in the true position, and history shows that every runner will get their chance if good enough in these conditions. The day of racing is scheduled to get underway at 12:20pm AEST.

Best Bet at Ballarat – Star In The Mist

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Star In The Mist has been an improver in all three starts in her career thus far, and we anticipate Sunday will be the day she breaks her maiden tag. The three-year-old filly was narrowly beaten at both of her last two starts and arguably would have finished closer to Regal Valour at Kilmore on May 12 had she not blundered the start. The Star Witness filly looks set to gain the perfect run in transit, in the one-one under Harry Coffey, and with better barrier manners this time, she will be hard to beat. Stepping up the 1600m from the 1452m will only benefit her winning chances, and with even luck in running, her turn of foot is more than good enough to take out a race like this.

Next Best at Ballarat – Mixmulti

In the first leg of the quaddie, debut winner Mixmulti will be looking to keep her perfect record intact. The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained filly showed plenty of determination in her narrow victory at Bendigo over 1300m on a Heavy 8. She looks set to get out further than the 1400m she encounters on Sunday, but getting back onto a slightly firmer deck should only benefit her winning chances. With market rival Hearts And Minds alongside Flaming Torch set to make this a genuinely run seven-furlong event, John Allen will look to have Mixmulti settled at the rear of the field and have her hitting the line strongly, much like she did on debut. The race looks perfectly set up for Mixmulti to be building through her gears approaching the turn, and with a sharp finishing burst, she should prove too good for this lot. We are more than happy to take the $2.60 on offer with the top online betting sites.

Best Value at Ballarat – Almsgiver

The Matthew Williams-trained Almsgiver is as honest as the day is long, and having not finished outside of the top four in his four starts this campaign, we think he will be hard to beat at a nice price on Sunday. The four-year-old gelding toughed it out on pace on a bottomless Heavy 10 at Warrnambool on May 5 and was ultimately the only forward runner in his race to be anywhere near the finish. He ran second on that day, beaten 1.25 lengths, and with three weeks between runs, should be raring to go here. Zac Spain will have him close to the speed throughout and draws to gain a suck run in transit. With race fitness on his side, we anticipate it will only be bad luck that gets him beaten this weekend. The $8.50 with online bookmakers is the wrong price, in our eyes.

Best Value

Race 6 – Silk #7 Almsgiver (5)

4yo Gelding | T: Matthew Williams | J: Zac Spain (59kg)

$8.50 with Ladbrokes
