Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 30, 2022 Journalists Share Posted May 30, 2022 What Sandown Lakeside Races Where Sandown Racecourse – 591-659 Princes Hwy, Springvale VIC 3171 When Wednesday, June 1, 2022 First Race 11:50pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes Racing returns to Sandown Lakeside for the midweek meeting on the first day of winter. The rail is out six metres for the entire circuit, and with a little rain around and a top of just 12 degrees, it’s going to be a day for passionate punters if attending on course. Despite the rain, the track is predicted to be a Good 4. Race one starts at 11:50am for the two-year-olds over 1400m, while the last of nine races is at 4:30pm. BEST BET: SOARHI This three-year-old gelding comes from the Team Hawkes stable and has raced well his last couple of starts without saluting. At Moonee Valley in December he was beaten a nose by Stay Gold after flashing home late over the 1528m distance, and then two weeks later he tried to lead all of the way at Sandown and just went down again, this time by a half a length when carrying 60kg. In this event he drops 3kg in weight with the services of Jye McNeil. He has a good barrier in five and McNeil has the option to go forward or back. Best Bet Race 8 – #14 Soarhi (5) 3yo Gelding | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: Jye McNeil (57kg) $4.20 with Bet365 NEXT BEST: TEOFILO STAR Michael Dee will take the ride on this gelding from the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott yard. This boy likes to lead in his races, so from barrier 10 we are hoping Dee gets him across without using too much petrol. He has led in his last four races and has finished in the money three times, so if he can get that lead again, he should at least place. His latest effort was a third over 2400m and he now has the miles in the legs, so the $6 on offer with the online bookies is well worth a look. Boyszee will be hardest to beat, but he does have a wide barrier (13). Next Best Race 2 – Teofilo Star 4yo Gelding | T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | J: Michael Dee (56.5kg) $6 with PlayUp BEST VALUE: HOPKINS This guy has always promised to be a consistent racehorse and he is really hitting his straps now for the Busuttin & Young stable having finished in the top three in his last five starts. Barrier 11 is a slight concern but Craig Newitt is on board who is sure to navigate a position early. Hopkins goes well on Good or Soft surfaces, so the track rating shouldn’t be of too much worry. He does usually sit back in his races so Newitt may opt out and head straight back early and hope for some early pace in the race. Hopkins won easily at Ballarat last start (2.8L). Now third up from a spell, we think he can make it two on end. Best Value Race 3 – #4 Hopkins (11) 4yo Gelding | T: Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young | J: Craig Newitt (59.5kg) $6.50 with Neds Wednesday quaddie numbers for Sandown Lakeside Sandown quadrella selections Wednesday, June 1, 2022 1-2-3-8-9 2-3-6-15 1-4-6-14 5-7-9-11 Investment: $320 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
