Victorian-owned rising star Refined proved far too ‘polished’ for her rivals in the $40,000 to-the-winner Group 2 WA Oaks (520m) at Cannington in Perth on the weekend.

Refined was sent West to contest the series as her Lysterfield South breeder Harry Manolitsis recuperates from ankle and foot surgery. She is owned by Manolitsis’ wife, Adean.

Currently under the caretaker trainership of “Team Shinners” (Krystal and Steve), Refined ($2.60F) led from go to whoa and saluted by a massive seven lengths in 29.92sec. It was her third win from only four starts.

It was a big night for the Shinners and Manolitsis partnership as Exhilarate (35.06sec) – an older half-brother of Refined – also scored, over 600m, on the program.

“She (Elevated) was brilliant on the track and I’m ecstatic with her as a brood matron.”

“I let Krystal and Steve know that Refined was an outstanding type,” Manolitsis said.

“I sent four across the Nullarbor as I knew I was ‘going out’ for around six months due to surgery.

“I’m happy to leave them in WA but Refined will eventually return to Victoria to compete in races like the Laurels and Sapphire Crown.”

Refined (Jun ’20 Barcia Bale) is a daughter of former top-flight speedster and pre-potent brood matron Elevated, which is also owned by Adean Manolitsis.

Elevated, which won 11 races from 30 starts, was runner-up in the 2018 G2 Shepparton Cup and a finalist in the 2019 G2 Warragul Cup and 2018 G3 Bill Collins Speed Star.

Her first litter (Oct ’19 Fernando Bale) produced Levitation (Finalist – G1 Sapphire Crown & G3 Launching Pad); Revolution (7 from 12); Exhilarate (6 from 20); Amplified (12 from 21) and Raised (7 from 18).

Meanwhile, Refined’s littermates include G3 Vic Bred Maiden finalist Deadly Class, whose two wins from five starts were both at The Meadows (29.88sec & 29.99sec), and Starling (3 from 4).

Elevated has also whelped a Sep ’21 Shima Shine litter (4 male, 2 female).

“She was brilliant on the track and I’m ecstatic with her as a brood matron,” Manolitsis said.
