Nine races will be run and won at Belmont this Saturday for Western Australia’s feature meeting, headlined by the Listed Raconteur Stakes (1400m). HorseBetting’s WA racing analyst presents his best bet in the feature event, as well as his top tips and quaddie numbers throughout the program. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is out just 1m for the entire course, and the first race is scheduled to jump at 11:59am AWST.

Raconteur Stakes Best Bet – Searchin’ Rocs

A competitive field of three-year-olds will contest Saturday’s Listed event in Belmont, and we are leaning the way of the Group 3 winner, Searchin’ Rocs. The filly by Awesome Rock won four straight races between June and October last year, with her win on October 23 coming at Listed level over 1200m at Ascot, where she beat It’sarayday. She then ran second to Buzzoom at Listed level over 1400m, before turning the tables on Buzzoom at her next start in the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes over the mile. That dominant victory saw her start $12 in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m), where she was far from disgraced against the older horses, going down less than three lengths to Regal Power and Western Empire. She resumed with a good third on May 21 at Belmont over 1200m, so out to 1400m and back against her own age could be a winning combo.

Best Bet at Belmont – Savage One

Although Savage One has found one better in all five starts this preparation, the Adam Durrant-trained four-year-old is ready to win. The son of God Has Spoken was only narrowly beaten last start over 1400m at this track, but he drops 2kg from that and rises to the mile for the first time in his career which should suit. The in-form Clint Johnston-Porter will be in the saddle from barrier 11, so he will look to slot in somewhere in the first half of the field to ensure he is close enough at the business end. Savage One has only missed the placings twice in 13 starts, and he looks primed to make it win five on Saturday.

Next Best at Belmont – Colossal

Grant Williams and Chris Parnham combine in the fifth with the unbeaten three-year-old colt Colossal in his Saturday debut. The son of Snitzel has won his two starts to date, scoring at Pinjarra on April 13 and then again here at Belmont on May 18, both of which were Wednesday metropolitan meetings. He does have to take it to the next level in Saturday grade, but he has looked good in winning both of his races to date to suggest that he can go on with it. Chris Parnham sticks with him, while he drops from 58kg to 55.5kg on Saturday and has drawn well in barrier three. Williams has opted to apply blinkers for the first time as well as a tongue tie, which should really switch him on. He will take some beating.

Best Value at Belmont – Watch Me Dance

We have tipped Watch Me Dance a couple of times and she never really lets us down, having finished in the money on 18 occasions from 24 starts. The four-year-old mare has raced four times this preparation, running third in her first three starts and then finishing second to God Has Chosen who came out and won the Group 3 Belmont Sprint last weekend. The Steve Wolfe-trained mare has had three goes at Belmont, placing second and third, so she can now get that elusive win. She doesn’t win out of turn, but we know where she will be in the run and she is as brave as they come, so the $17 on offer with Unibet seems a fair price.
