Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 4, 2022 Journalists Share Posted June 4, 2022 What Alice Springs Races Where Alice Springs Turf Club – Pioneer Park Racecourse South, Connellan NT 0870 When Sunday, June 5, 2022 First Race 1:19PM ACST Visit Ladbrokes Race 1 (1.17pm) – $17,000 Centreline Saddlery 0-70 Handicap (1000m) Harpuna has strung back to back wins at Pioneer Park and despite backing up from last Sunday he should still prove far too classy. The 5YO gelding rounded the field with consummate ease last start at 0-64 level over 1100m before securing an effortless victory. So imposing was Harpuna that it appeared as though he still had plenty of petrol in the tank. Cut It Out (Will Savage/Casey Hunter) was in good form before a last start sixth in the Queen of the Desert 0-76 Handicap (1200m) on April 29 and deserves another chance. Expect Like A Heartbeat (Lisa Whittle/Sonja Wiseman) to bounce back after a disappointing fourth behind Harpuna last weekend as a $2.80 favourite. Arrogant Miss (Russell Bell/Jessie Philpot) was fifth in the Queen of the Desert before going down narrowly in open company over 1000m a week ago Best Bet Race 1 – 1 Harpuna (4) 5yo Gelding | T: Lisa Whittle | J: Paul Denton (59kg) $2.60 with Unibet Race 2 (1.52pm) – $16,000 Araluen Taxation Services 0-58 Handicap (1000m) Butterfingers was a scratching last Sunday, so after a five-week break she will be fresh in a race where betting each-way could be the wise option. The 4YO mare was competitive against decent opposition without winning during the Alice Springs Cup Carnival. Butterfingers is returning after a short break, but after returning from a much longer break in February she was victorious. Harbour Express (Lisa Whittle/Sonja Wiseman) is backing up after a third at 0-58 level over 1200m last Sunday. White Kaps (Greg Connor/Jessie Philpot) is capable of anything, but seems to be perennial place-getter. Tycoons Dior (Rene Taylor/Wayne Davis) is still a maiden, but hasn’t done much wrong of late. Old marvel Heart Of Red (Terry Gillett/Sairyn Fawke) just can’t rediscover his good form from last year, but could surprise Best Bet Race 2 – 3 Butterfingers (3) 4yo Mare | T: Terry Gillett | J: Stan Tsaikos (56kg) $4.50 with Palmerbet Race 3 (2.22pm) – $16,000 Daryl Braithwaite September 17 0-58 Handicap (1000m) Rhythmical was a $2.40fav at 0-58 level last Sunday, but didn’t get to finish the 1200m trip after losing his rider Sairyn Fawke when they jumped. The 8YO gelding hasn’t finished any worse than fourth in his past seven runs despite not saluting since September 26. A last start fourth at 0-58 level (1200m) on April 29 should have Rhythmical cherry ripe, so long as last weekend’s episode hasn’t affected his preparation. Frilly Design (Terry Huish/Paul Denton) is certainly good enough, but needs to re-capture her 2021 form to be any hope. Shortball (Barry Cooke/Sonja Wiseman) is a maiden, but wasn’t that far away at Tennant Creek over 1000m on May 14. The bookies will be cheering if either Kenneth (Ursula Dobbe/Casey Hunter), Boulevardier (Dick Leech/Jessie Philpot) or Acres Midnight (Terry Gillett/Stan Tsaikos) wins Best Bet Race 3 – 2 Rhythmmical (1) 8yo Gelding | T: Kevin Lamprecht | J: Sairyn Fawke (56.5kg) $2.25 with Ladbrokes Race 4 (3.00pm) – $20,000 Yeperenye Shopping Centre Class 2 Handicap (1100m) Ananagram finally triumphed last Sunday at the seventh attempt with an emphatic six lengths win in a 1200m maiden. The 4YO gelding from NSW was nothing short of spectacular after taking off at the 600m and the win was unexpected after a last start seventh on debut in the Red Centre over 1100m on April 29. Ananagram only has to pick up from where he left off a week ago to make it back to back wins. Manhattan Man (Greg Connor/Jessie Philpot) finished second in the NT Guineas (1600m) on April 16 before a last start fourth against fellow 3YOs over 1200m on May 1. Esashi (Terry Gillett/Stan Tsaikos) and Envy Me (Lisa Whittle/Paul Denton) certainly have plenty of ability and just like Manhattan Man are capable of bringing Ananagram back down to earth. Bartolini (Phil Cole/Wayne Davis) is an outside hope Best Bet Race 4 – 1 Ananagram (1) 4yo Gelding | T: Lisa Whittle | J: Sonja Wiseman (59kg) $1.95 with Neds Race 5 (3.38pm) – $16,000 Ladbrokes Cash In 0-54 Handicap (1400m) Future Dreams had been chipping away with honest performances all year and after five starts he finally delivered last Sunday at 0-58 level over 1200m. The 6YO gelding had his rivals covered turning for home to win by three lengths. Cops a bit more weight, but after last week’s effort you’d have every right to feel confident if you backed him. Just Hang Up (Barry Cooke/Sairyn Fawke) and Halogem (Jess Gleeson/Sonja Wiseman) have respectable career records, but they just can’t find their best form. In saying that, both must be treated with respect. Rockford Files (George Cooke/TBA) has yet to win a race, but in his last four starts at a Class 2 and maiden level he has managed two seconds and two thirds. Morphling (Greg Connor/Jessie Philpot) raced well to finish fourth behind Future Dreams last weekend Best Bet Race 5 – 4 Future Dreams (1) 6yo Gelding | T: Terry Gillett | J: Stan Tsaikos (58.5kg) $2.60 with Bet365 Race 6 (4.17pm) – $16,000 Alice Springs Biggest Xmas Party December 2 0-54 Handicap (1400m) Dataset had three starts at Pioneer Park in March (0-64), April (0-66) and May (0-62) from 1100-1200m without making much noise, so to overcome 0-64 opposition at Tennant Creek over 1450m on May 14 was a surprise. The 6YO gelding upset the in-form Sedona, a star before and during the Alice Springs Cup Carnival, so using that as a barometer Dataset is a genuine chance. Elon (Phil Cole/Wayne Davis) is perhaps the best of the rest and boasted good form in five of his six appearances before a last start failure on May 1 – albeit against 0-62 opposition. Tredici (Ray Viney/Jessie Philpot) has a habit of pulling off the surprise result now and again, so tread with caution. Winter Harbour (Lisa Whittle/Paul Denton) and Huckleberry (Kevin Lamprecht/Sairyn Fawke) must be considered if you’re eyeing a trifecta or first four Best Bet Race 6 – 1 Dataset (1) 6yo Gelding | T: Jess Gleeson | J: Casey Hunter (58.5kg) $2.90 with Betfair Race 7 (4.50pm) – $25,000 Pioneer Park Anniversary 0-76 Cup (1400m) Valenciano was huge after finishing third against her own sex in the Queen of the Desert 0-76 Handicap (1200m) on April 29. The 6YO mare hadn’t raced since February and in all honesty was unlucky not to win the race. No surprise then when Valenciano headed to Tennant Creek on May 14 and won at 0-70 level over 1200m – pipping the well-performed Me Cabo by a nose. Supreme Times (Terry Gillett/Stan Tsaikos) is a massive chance – he won four straight before finishing 11th against quality opposition in the $100,000 Pioneer Sprint (1200m) on May 1. Masaru Warrior (Will Savage/Casey Hunter) has been racing well since March and can’t be dismissed. Exonerate (Carrol Hunter/Wayne Davis), lining up for his 48th start in Alice, is in the mix and returns after failing to finish the Tennant Creek Cup (1600m) on May 14 Best Bet Race 7 – 6 Valenciano (1) 6yo Mare | T: Barry Cooke | J: Sonja Wiseman (55kg) $7.00 with PlayUp Sunday quaddie tips for Alice Springs Alice Springs quadrella selections Sunday, June 5, 2022 1 4 1 6 Investment: $1 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
