Eight metropolitan races will be contested at Doomben Racecourse this Wednesday, June 8, with the first race scheduled to jump at 12:20pm AEST. While Saturday’s Eagle Farm meeting for Stradbroke Handicap Day will of course steal the show in Brisbane this weekend, the midweek program at Doomben is certainly solid, with race four shaping to be a terrific contest. The track is currently a Soft 6, while the rail is out 8.5m for the entire course.

Best Bet at Doomben – Fetch

The fourth race of the day is one of the most competitive midweek races we have seen in some time, with the entire field of three-year-olds undoubtedly Saturday metropolitan class. Although it is a competitive and tricky race, we are confident that Fetch will prove to be too good, as she makes her return to the races. The Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted-trained filly was last seen finishing midfield in the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) in December, where she was six lengths behind Rhapsody Rose. The daughter of Sebring is yet to really run a bad race, and a recent 3.75-length trial win on the synthetic track at the Sunshine Coast suggests she is right on track for a first-up victory under Ben Thompson.

Next Best at Doomben – Snitzify

Following a gritty on-pace victory on Monday, May 30, here at Doomben, the Tony Gollan-trained Snitzify is one horse who looks in good stead to make it back-to-back wins. The five-year-old son of Snitzel led all of the way over 1350m last start, giving gun apprentice Angela Jones her first metropolitan winner. The gelding had to fight for it though, as Ghostwriter looked to loom large and put the race away. The top weight will drop 1kg after his win, with in-form apprentice Leah Kilner set to take over the reins. In the past two months, Kilner has ridden four winners at Doomben, riding the track at 28%, so Snitzify looks well placed to keep that strike rate ticking over.

Best Value at Doomben – Factory Warrior

The Mark Currie yard has found some form of old, with 12 winners from their past 50 starters. Stable stalwart Factory Warrior can add to that tally when he lines up in a Benchmark 72 on Wednesday afternoon, under apprentice rider Kyle Wilson-Taylor. The grey six-year-old has had plenty of racing of late and he has ran well each time. From barrier four, Wilson-Taylor will look for the lead on the son of The Factor, which could be enough to see this fit and in-form gelding get away with it out in front. He is knocking on the door for a win, and this is certainly winnable.
