The Sunshine Coast will host their standard Sunday meeting this weekend, with eight races scheduled to be run and won at Corbould Park. HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst presents you with his best bets, value bet and quaddie selections, with all three bets coming in the final three events on the program. The track is on the improve, with the rating currently a Soft 5, while the rail is out 7m for the entire course. Race 1 is set to jump at 12:05pm AEST.

Best Bet at Sunshine Coast – Morethannumberone

Any followers of Queensland racing will know the name Morethannumberone, with the somewhat up-and-coming boom horse now with Annabel Neasham following Michael Costa’s Australian departure. This flashy five-year-old started favourite at Listed level in December at Doomben, but it was probably a bridge too far for him at that point in time. First-up, the son of More Than Ready was fair on the Polytrack with 62kg, finishing fifth to the very talented Joy Too All over 1100m. Now out to 1400m, back to the turf and dropping to 54kg with the in-form Samantha Collett in the saddle, we expect Morethannumberone to be winning this quite stylishly.

Best Bet

Race 6 – Silks #8 Morethannumberone (5)

Next Best at Sunshine Coast – Tairua

Tairua is looking to remain unbeaten after five career starts. The Paul Jenkins-trained four-year-old mare has won her first four starts in nice style – all of which were at this track. The mare by Reliable Man was a winner at 1400m at the end of her last campaign, before resuming with a nice win over 1300m on April 29. Her runs have always been spaced, so the six weeks between runs going into this race on Sunday is not really a concern for us. She tends to settle in the second half of the field, so barrier 12 isn’t a huge worry, while Tiffani Brooker knows her very well having ridden her in all four starts. There’s no reason why Tairua doesn’t win again.

Best Value at Sunshine Coast – Calcareous

Lauren Abbott and the woman of the hour Samantha Collett combine in the final race of the day with top weight Calcareous. The grey four-year-old was arguably a certainty beaten up in Rockhampton last start after bombing the start to then be beaten only 1300m. The son of Not a Single Doubt steps out to 1600m which is going to be an advantage, while the capacity field of 15 will ensure a solid tempo is set, allowing him to swoop over the top of them. Barrier 17 is awkward, but he can get back and finish off.

Best Value

Race 8 – Silk #1 Calcareous (17)

4yo Gelding | T: Lauren Abbott | J: Samantha Collett (59kg)
