CYBERKNIFE (Gun Runner–Awesome Flower, by Flower Alley) improbably got on the right side of a head-bobbing finish after a thrilling stretch duel with Howling Time (Not This Time) to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in Sunday's GIII Matt Winn S. at Churchill. The GI Arkansas Derby winner two back, Cyberknife was favored at 1-2 here coming off an 18th-place run in the GI Kentucky Derby and tracked Howling Time from second through modest fractions of :24.19 and :47.81. Turning up the pressure steadily around the far turn, the chestnut looked loaded for bear at the top of the lane under a confident Florent Geroux, but encountered a tenacious foe in the frontrunner, and those two traded blows the rest of the way. Howling Time regained command by a full neck inside the final sixteenth, but Geroux pushed out Cyberknife for one final try in the closing strides and ended up in front by a sliver at the wire in 1:41.98. It was a long way back to Rattle N Roll (Connect) in third. Lifetime Record: GISW, 8-4-2-0, $995,000. O-Gold Square LLC; B-Kenneth L. & Sarah K. Ramsey (KY); T-Brad Cox.
